Quietest day yet on the coast here , one yacht left Whangarei and on its current course it will go way outside the knights . Are boats able to clear out of customs at the moment ? and there is a large Riv or Maritomo very slowly heading south but close in so not gamefishing , probs trying to make it back to Auck on what diesel they have left .

Good call , the chairman mao caps and pipes were getting taken out of storage in the other thread

Might depend on the marina . Sounds like some have stepped up security to keep owners and undesirables out . Judging by the odd gamefishing boat on the horizon here over the last few days some marinas might be hands off

Will post this here seeingas it’s going on right now in a backyard up here (pity the neighbours ) it’s an Elliot 650 that’s been stretched to 7.5 metres , maximum beam carried aft , bit a bottom booty job in the aft sections and cabin lopped off in favour of a turtle deck . New rig is a blank carbon melges section with homemade carbon spreaders made in two parts in molds . The standing rigging is going to be quite radical by the sounds of it and will be made at home too , in very exotic materials sourced from some very exotic locations . the pics are from a couple of weeks ago

This one . It’s a Shaw 750 T . The old mainsail was not made for the boat it is a 2nd hand one off animal biscuits which is a 750 sport . Old main has had a long life of probably 8-10 years at a guess and is totally rooted . New sail in the pic was built at UK sails in Fongaray by Phizzle and probably some help from Wal too . Cloth is DP PX black line 20 I think ? Bit heavier than needed but it will last a good while in that weight

This was finished on weds afternoon before the lockdown . It’s staying at the loft until I can pick up 😫 . Doing my head in , but at least I will have a very good reason to go sailing immediately the minute I’m allowed to .

I’ve been playing an online sailing game called virtual regatta inshore for the last four evenings .its quite good and it has a custom race feature where you can invite other peeps on the platform . staring down the barrel of a month or more of no club racing I’m keen to race against a bunch of kiwis . anyone keen ? There could have a bar thread to debrief post racing just like at your local club . game is available at App Store and google play store . I’ve not played it on a phone so dunno what that’s like just used an iPad . It can be played on windows via a 3rd party application

There’s one man out there that caused so much pain for so many with his bloody glue and front runner

There’s a shed load in that size/price bracket on Trademe . Immerse yourself and start making comparisons

Heat gun a length of PVC conduit into the right shape maybe ? Could be plugged back into its own joint and glued

My mate just sold a Tasman 20 for $600 to this guy . It has a seized centreboard and no trailer . Will be interesting to see what it’s re-listed for and what the trailer and centreboard repairs are like

That’s a toothpuller mate

Very robust debate on this incident in SA forum with the boat owner saying some not nice things about Jason Ker . Ker did a superb job of keeping his cool and explaining the facts while a bunch of rabid Ockers tried to burn him at the stake. Something I learnt from the debate is that there is a company in kawerau that is highly regarded worldwide for building internal steel structures for race boat keels , but this one wasn’t one theirs either .

Anchored at hooks bay and it’s decidedly spooky seeing boats sailing out of the gloom from te kouma thru man o war passage . Feels almost apocalyptic out here
