  1. A death on the water. Sounds like someone took a boom to the head. Really unfortunate for family, crew and organisers, and commiserations to everyone aboard the yacht.
  2. Everyone focuses on flushing toilets, but the majority of auckland sewerage is grey water, a lot of it commercial and industrial. That makes the 250l claim a page ago quite plausible especially given the total water consumption in Auckland. Survivor bias helps explain the lack of any recollection of historical water-borne infections or outbreaks of disease. Bear in mind, the current thinking is that the most likely cause of Queenstown's recent infection outbreak is one infected person pooing in Lake Whakatipu. You all can swim or whatever if you like, I'll stay out until the all cl
  3. everyone knows that their sh*t don't stink in Parnell
  4. Nice article. Good luck guys! https://www.coastalclassic.co.nz/post/how-a-1-reserve-trademe-listing-reunited-these-sailors-with-an-old-friend?fbclid=IwAR2aceLj28pC1cU2HQrf30B4FHL9wUsHgwJxAV5U8ritOTyGVQbEn-rkteM
  5. Agree, if the battery is fully charged. However, a battery at a low charge state is such a large current sink by comparison to the PV, it will pull the voltage down and the alternator will supply the bulk of any charging current as you have already pointed out. Pretty sure we actually both agree, but it is a situation where short answers in a forum will always exclude relevant details.
  6. Yeah, I'm assuming the 17v reading is an error or typo. The panel may produce 17v open circuit and ahead of the regulator.
  7. The alternator output will swamp the solar panel output. Effectively, your solar is a trickle charger. It's not going to impact the rest of the charge circuit in any meaningful way.
  8. I've got one you can borrow for sure, but I'm in South AKL. Let me know if you need it.
  9. too deep (fore and aft), too low - how are you ever going to manage those cabintop winches and clutches? And, as BP notes, the flat rear bow is just asking for it to buckle under a light load. I do like the full clears look though - done right it would be easy to give the impression the dodger isn't there
  10. Anyone who does caravan awnings or similar will have the equipment and expertise to do this.
  11. Chartering is a thing eh. Keep the yacht you need for 95% of the time, charter the yacht the group needs for the 10 days or whatever that the event occurs. Bonus: Said charter can be anywhere globally, and everyone pays a share of it so you are not carrying the annual cost of ownership for a boat that only gets used ot its size potential once ina blue moon.
  12. major iniquity all around really. Yeah, the marine industry was there first, but planning rules exist for a reason so if the council allowed apartments where its understandable that the view is a part of the value, it follows that the council should have notified the non-compliant building application by Orams. No fault on Orams part, they are victims of the council's disregard for its own rules as well.
  13. Hard to tell at that resolution, but I'm calling BS on it, especially on a hanky sized furled headsail.
  14. It's impossible to comment on your situation since we don't know any detail. As an HR person in a 24/7 365 business, I can tell you the overtime and penal rates are a straight market exercise. It's hard to get people to work those hours or on public holidays, so you pay more to incentivise it. No rocket science here, just supply and demand.
  15. the whole situation is farcical. I get on the AKL trains at Papakura each morning at about the same time that Te Huia is pulling in. The increase in use has been easy to see - the decline because of this will be similarly obvious I expect.
  16. There are plenty of examples of regulator intervention across the business and govt sectors. I've no idea why KiwiRail has had this current problem which appears to be human error.
  17. I would expect that a generic assessment would be completed and regularly reviewed. One of the SOPs associated with the RA would probably be a review of relevant factors before and during each trip. It would be the SOP that operationalized the analysis
  18. The more serious charges are the later ones. Hence the final paragraph.
  19. Hell CD, whats wrong with you, bringing facts to an argument? Next you'll be rattling on about due process.
  20. Belongs here b/c: BP's daughter will appreciate the instrument building Anyone who references gifts from Jack White is ok in my book. That includes the Flaming Lips. That cymbal is the most wrecked bit of music equipment I've ever seen Seasick Steve is a name that would suit the Patron Saint of Crew
