I dealt with several brokers last summer, in Auckland and Picton. I thought most were very good. Particularly appreciated the service from NZ Boat Sales in Picton. The one bad experience was the guy at Laurie Collins. I phoned and made an appointment to see a boat, drove an hour along with my Dad to get there at the agreed time, but he refused to show me the boat because he had someone else (apparently more important) coming to look at another (apparently more important) boat. Other commitments meant I simply couldn't reschedule before I left the country. But as far as I know someone else did

I would suggest asking yourself the question - What is the absolute lowest height I need that will provide the functionality I really need?

I spent last Thursday to Sunday competing in the US Formula 16 National Championship at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron in Florida and took 1st place in the singlehanded division. Not quite as impressive as it might sound - there were only 3 singlehanders in the fleet of 21. Still I was pretty pleased - these are challenging boats to sail solo and my sailing has improved significantly in the last year or so, so I felt the result was a good measure of that. Actually I don't think that was quite the question... if they were all being sold as $1 auctions, prices would adapt and they would be sold, and many probably would then get the maintenance they need or parted out and scrapped. The problem is that owners aren't selling at $1 reserve auctions (though that is exactly what I did with my Harmonic in March... multiple bidders right to the close, the buyer got a great deal by current market standards and I was very happy with the result).

Did my first offshore race(s) (long weekend - Thursday-Monday)... Naples-Key West on a Catana 43 - 1st in Multihull Division (out of 2). Then Key West-Naples, 1st in Spinnaker Division (out of 6). Got hit by a thunderstorm off Marco Island Sunday night, gusts to 42 knots apparent.
