Hmm...racking my brain... are there any near as new NZ 30fters?? Just curious what you have in mind. Maybe I'm having a senior moment. For that matter what older boats are you thinking of, ready to go. Just want to calibrate my thinking.

A classic NZH rehash of things they've already reported.

A 30 yr old kiwi 35fter costs more than $254k? Ok, I get that you probably meant on some kind of cost/benefit basis. Still the point is debatable, but in any case, I think you're actually making KM's point for him (which funnily enough had nothing to do with kiwi vs foreign boats).

And the Reacher started at 70k. https://www.marinehub.co.nz/boats-for-sale/senior/reacher-34/994fac63-7365-4290-af14-0725c619a052

Latest I heard was that the mayday was cancelled. They feel they have the situation under control and are making about 3kts westward. http://bit.ly/2tQfJoh

The following from the Herald made me think of this thread - http://bit.ly/2thN1NN Then add in the whole Motutapu situation. And the guy forced to cross the Whakatane Bar when he was safely anchored at Whale Island. And the Coromandel harbourmaster stood down for saving an Orca without 'following protocol'. Unconnected? I don't think so.

Just released, not a lot of info really, more an announcement of an announcement - http://bit.ly/2u6tGQD Looking at early 2021 in Auckland with "constructed in country" and crew nationality rules. Nothing too surprising. Details in September.

Been watching that one from afar. I'm curious what to make of the fact that it's been on the market for a year. Does this say something about the market as a whole, or Wellington, or that particular design, or that particular boat? Or something else?

Hope you'll have time along the way to show us some of the journey at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkBgdq9fSnji6ybnyPAk63w

Since you mention Tasmania, this blog may be of interest... http://www.twoatsea.com/a-long-overdue-tasmania-report-from-cyndi-tasmania-australia/ -
I know someone who has used youshop successfully. Sounds like it would be a perfect solution for your case. https://www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/youshop/features/how-youshop-works

I confess the thought crossed my mind

Pretty interesting. That article has been significantly updated from when I first posted.

Some suggestion here of a deliberate ramming. The container ship did a 180 1/2 an hour before impact... http://www.vesselofinterest.com/2017/06/mapping-acx-crystals-collision-with-uss.html

I thought it was interesting when the whole Oracle sailing team were waiting on the dock to welcome Softbank back after their final race - http://bit.ly/2rlSJgD And now this: https://twitter.com/EmiratesTeamNZ/status/875457235178196992/photo/1

I think people have been offering Shane a hand in various ways here for some time. I seem to recall someone even offered him a job at one point.
-
Oh I agree. Terminally incompetent.
-
Maybe not. Someone anonymous writing in the Herald suggests that they may just not have the grunt to maintain enough hydraulic pressure late into the race. http://beta.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11861726

Todd Niall from RNZ makes a run for most inane question of the day - https://youtu.be/aimY0BVt1Dg?t=449

So if I'm reading this right, the government's involvement in this exercise ensures that (i) there are a very limited supply of people who are allowed to tell you your equipment is ok, which allows them to charge you exorbitant fees and (ii) you may in fact have unsafe equipment and not know it. Do I have that right?

Didn't work for me, but I accidentally found it elsewhere - And of course the inevitable question this leads to is when will we see the first foiling P-class?!

I realize they've recruited people specifically for their athletic ability, but this raised my eyebrow a little in the Herald's latest article on ETNZ... http://bit.ly/2q4PcWH On the team website his role is listed as "Cyclist".

No drama in Cook Strait tonight.
