  1. Fantastic race thanks Richmond and all the other organisers. From the Freedom we had a great race. My crew was suffering a serious sinus infection but stuck it out and managed to stay awake long enough to hold the talking stick, while I did the sail changes ( good onya Liz). Fro off the start in a light easterly, managed to lay north head and found out how shallow it really is going into narrowneck beach as we came to a soft stop. No problem on a cat, let everthing go, pull up the dagger board and off we go again. Sub-optimal tho and hoots of laughter from TC on Pulse made sure we got o
  2. definately classed as a multihull. Obviously that's why it flipped ..........dangerous things. I bet he won't try that again !!
  3. looked like pretty massive swells down in foveaux straight though...
  4. FREEEEEDOM is going to be part of the multi fleet
  5. Looks like its heading to australia now. I think we will get 30 knots and rain but nothing too bad. looks like RNZ fleet will get strong downwind conditions on sunday
  6. space station is a great little boat. Lots of performance and able to be cruised as well. The owners of space station have done a load of work on her too so she should have absolutely no issues and good sails ( one of the owners is a sailmaker). https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/keeler/auction-1955001078.htm I have to push my boat as well. Ross 780's are a great mix of cruiser and racer, just a slight level down from the SR26. My one has loads of gear and is a great little boat. The advantage of a trailer yacht is she costs nothing to park and you can load her up
  7. So they have no idea how or if its going to hit us yet. Hope the RNZ lot get far enough south to get out of the way.
  8. Awesome afternoon out Bill. Thanks. didn't booboo and damon do well.
  9. The GH locks are a pain in the ass. Especially when your 10 year old son manages to drop the access card in the piss, grrrrrrrrrrr!!! Caused in the main by members of the public making a pain in the ass of themselves on a pier looking at the stingrays and king fish fed by the charter boats. Progress eh.
  10. Ah the old bump sailed on her for a few years up here. Great boat
  11. Yup it's a whisker pole. Used to keep the brace off the side stay when shy reaching with a kite up. Also very useful for poling out a genoa. Hang onto it.
  12. Typical BMW driver They weren't wearing life jackets either coastguard should be notified.
  13. nail biter. looks like the breeze stayed in in the derwent. Infotrack was chasing hard.
  14. she's all on. WOXI leading now, comanche has just over taken black jack. looking very light in the derwent.
  15. Yep good looking boat. random armchairs in the saloon tho. Built for whiskey and cigars I reckon
  16. Hey I saw the ship she got offloaded from come into Auckland Friday a week ago when we were taking freedom upto Gulf harbour. It had loads of yachts and cats onboard. I wonder where it came from. In terms of the whoppa pretty skinny and low volume. I'd rather have a 45 foot Outreamer for that kind of money.
  17. I never had much to do with wheels until I did RNI on Marshall Law. Her twin wheels were awesome, loads of feel, didn't clog up the cotpit and really good for long passages. They were particularly good downwind in the dark as you could stay in one place and feel the boat under your feet. Also on a reach you didn't have to haul the tiller and could feel the rudder letting go so you could sit on coaming and play the main. I'm not so sure about big single wheels tho

Nacra 5.3 or 5.5 or 5.8 Just as easy as a hobie 16 to rig but MUCH faster !! They sell for around $ 1500 - 3000 these days. Mine does 8 - 10 knots upwind and I've had her up to 18 knots downwind.
  19. She's just not being used so she has to go. $ 23,900.00 with lots of good gear. We have too many boats so it’s time to let Rafferty Rules go to a new family. We have owned this wonderful yacht for 7 years and have spent lots of dollars upgrading her deck gear, sails, rig and hull. She is a truly awesome boat and an absolute giant killer. It's a sad day for me! I have had sooooo much fun on her!! Ross 780 class New mast and rigging 2016. Cathedral rig with removable top spreaders ( to make her class) by NZ rigging ( bart) Removable carbon prod 1 masthead, 2 fractional kite hal

  23. He's 200 miles ahead and buttoning off, maybe he's learnt from the past. he does deserve a win !! Good on him.
  24. Hats off To alex so far. He seems to have survived the nasty stuff and is still leading. Hopefully his luck stays in and he doesn't hit anything. I may have to eat my words.
  25. I waiting for Hugo Boss to blow up. Everyone else is buttoning off protecting their boats and he's setting a new top speed for his boat. It won't be the first time. Pity about Sam Davies she's a rockstar!!
