  1. The key is that he was not on the mooring offered by the council, but another similar, the council just wanted it to go away so paid. As far as a competent yachtsman and a loveable rogue goes, the first three mutinies he suffered points the other way. I wonder if Classique is still tied up at Robertsons (the salvage yard ?? referred to in the Herald where she has resided since the harbour bridge rest)
  2. He was hopping between 'emergency' moorings for years and occasionally paying the fees, so the council probably should have shifted him to a more sheltered spot, would have been cheaper for the ratepayer in the end. It was a spectacle the mast leaning over the left lane of the bridge going south for a few days.
  3. Real local yachting still exists, the AC is a largely irrelevant but still intriguing sideshow. It headed offshore for good so that the owners of ETNZ can generate more money.
  4. Leave them but exercise the valve(s) regularly.
  5. Old story again, picked up by journos with no research, the incoming Commodore is a strong supporter of Dalton selling the cup and the status quo, in fact he raised three cheers for Aaron Young on saturday evening !! History will record what these guys allowed to occur. Jim Farmer has a great overview of the Team and all the goings on.
  6. This was all announced some time back, but good on Michael for keeping it in the public eye -Grants retirement plan . I also know quite a few members who have resigned over it and the value they are getting from their $700.00 plus dollars when drinks are double the price of other yacht clubs (with the same booze supplier)
  7. I have stripped off clothes put on togs and swum ashore on a lee shore , it was too rough for dinghy, went back out to get all our gear off the boat on the mooring two days later -like a mill pond, which made it even sadder that some one had drowned in the stormy weather on a cat very close by without us knowing.
  8. When it was given to the council and then they leased it to a private operator the writing was on the wall. Back in the day with Trevor running it with volunteers helping and operated by the Harbour board it was always full -right over to the seawall where the Marina is now. Three times as many hauled with no travelift and a cheeky welcome from the staff, the average man could work on his or her own vessel, that is not part of the new Auckland unless you go to Panmure the Gold hole or the Wade and Clevedon. Interesting to reflect that you could happily haul (on the beach) at St Heliers an
  9. The last replacement rudder stock I made for a Chico 40- we used the original molds which Duthie Lidgard had, might have gone to Brin Wilson boats after that. You can hardly compare Ilex with the Chico 40's Jono . Thats like comparing a Woolacott Sheryl to a Pied Piper -yes they are both 22'. The Chico rudder is not a bad shape as it goes, Keith Eade is still living in Milford next to the yard so he may know if the molds still exist.
  10. Swamp fox was an early one from Thames, hole in front if a regular shape was probably for the lead that was there to ensure board sank.
  11. Yes Motored by lovely diesels
  12. Yes I see a Stewart beat some 40' yachts
  13. Looks like the 1020's and 88's had good fleets for the SSANZ weekend race -any stories?
  14. She has two C32 Cats onboard to enable her to fulfill her demanding role , in fact they were out last night practicing
  15. mmmm there is a lot of grey hair about, and would be double if the girls went au naturel
  16. I have a basic Victron not bluetooth and had no problems with remarkable efficiency in summer.
  17. Thanks for the update Booboo I didnt realise that he had finally left.
  18. I use a coat of west system epoxy followed by six coats of Epifanes one pot gloss, easy to touch up and looks great . but varnish used to be $9.70 a litre now 10 times that !!!!
  19. It will be one of those strange little Frank Blom schooners with the radical tumblehome and conical bow, was afloat Sunday
  20. Yes it has to have the diesels as the Port has to be able to respond to ship problems from Tiri in. The Government (us) are paying for the two first experimental fully electric low speed jet powered ferry, but separately AT are getting Hybrid ferries under way for the longer routes =Waiheke Gulf Harbour etc -At least they are building the first one in NZ rather than sending the money offshore. Interesting gearbox -able to take input from the electric motors or diesels.
  21. Note I am only referring to NZ built and gst paid boats that later sailed offshore for a cruise.
  22. waikiore

    Stuck tiller?

Should not have loctite . I was referring to common boatbuilding epoxy.
  23. I know others who have purchased kiwi built boats offshore and sailed them home -no gst. The boat is kiwi registered left on a cruise, delayed overseas then sold to another kiwi who sailed her home. Boat was never "exported" nothing to see here.
  24. If you really dont want to pay gst buy a kiwi built boat, there has been a Regardless for sale in the Med for 10 plus years very reasonable price -but shipping her here has gone from $28000 to $92000 during that time!
