Yes Bernard was a great colourful character always to be seen at tall ships, a sad end really.
-
This has been well flagged for the last six years with J pier being reconfigured for longer craft
-
The same painters are painting, the same travel lift drivers, ....
-
I would love to see the 500 jobs detailed as no one down here has heard of them and busineses that serviced these craft in the past are pulling out of Westhaven because of rent increases

Have used many loops of small spectra and a spanish windlass to replace some metal fittings in the past, unfortunately in this case I dont think it would have helped. -

Rather unclear as to what snapped, it would be good to know for future inspections. -
Nice pilot cutters, was just looking at the local one in build yesterday.
-
There was a period where these Compass built Farr 38's had to have two inspectors look before signing off for cat 1. In particular the flat area at the back of the keel generally needed timber reinforcement to ensure the hulls integrity in case of touching terra firma .

Yes the glass is really for abrasion resistance after that process -certainly not required for strength.
-
Yes Frank that is the only way it will last, after first drying the hull thoroughly inside and out and splining her, glued up tight you can skin them with one or more layers diagonal before glassing, we started this in the early eighties up north on a Falmouth Quay punt called Curlew that some of you may recall bailing her way here. Well after many years at the Falklands she is I believe in the Falmouth Maritime museum still tight as.

So the previous records and history are just that : history?

There are a number on Waiheke who could buy one from the spare change in their back pockets, come the marina completion I would expect to see this sort of thing berthed there. Just look at how many Sea Legs are already there.

They didnt. It was liquidated to a point where the leaving partner was happy, then the remaining partner purchased the remaining stock off the liquidator and good luck to them in the future the trading environment is very tough out there even without Westhaven type rents...

I looked at her just prior to the new engine going in and there was no sign of glass sheathing, you could see the planks and if I can find my tall ships pics from that year (a good breezy one) they may even show in them, I was worried that her shearline looked severely hogged which is a worrying sign in a boat of that type.

No lad its me after a week aboard with the kids
-
KM has one thing right -the cost of doing business on Beaumont st will see a number of changes this year....

Sailors Supplies open

Yes to be clear I was referring to multi skin glassed kiwi boats , and fish is right there is a big difference between a standard Bavaria and a Halberg Rassy just to pick one example.
-
opening again soon under new name
-
Ah I will take wooden anytime over that boat, if his rudder stock or tube is gone he has a good reason to leap off, otherwise.... but that name was asking for it. A friend left at the same time from Auckland to the same destination

Who fancies a sail in the Hauraki Gulf this long QB weekend?

They do have to empty the beer lines at KBC this weekend, just saying..... -
Yes he has done stirling work for our heritage fleet and more recently the 'Daring" and apart from a small hicup with the Loyal campaign where he did not understand the issues, has always fought for the boaties.
