  1. The official info in NZ is maintained on the New Zealand Resuscitation Council's site. https://www.nzrc.org.nz/ CPR here which still talks of a ratio of 30:2 for compressions to breaths but many organisations suspended the breaths due to COVID and I've heard the same as Wheels - the compressions move an adequate amount of air so if in doubt or on your own - focus on those.
  2. Used to carry one of these when I was diving - tiny when rolled up but but pretty effective..
  3. Found: https://www.maritimenz.govt.nz/public/news/media-releases-2021/20210218b.asp The yacht missing off the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula has been found and both people on board are believed safe. Maritime NZ’s Rescue Coordination Centre NZ (RCCNZ) began coordinating the search yesterday evening after a brief and partial Mayday call was received. Senior Search and Rescue Officer, Chris Henshaw, said that a short time ago a vessel advised that it was the one that had broadcast the Mayday call. RCCNZ is standing down the search aircraft and vessel. More detail
  4. Heard a rep from the RCCNZ being interviewed in the radio this morning. That's essentially all the info they're working from. Minimal info from the very broken radio call, no call sign heard. Conflicting info re location, Waiheke was stated, location given east of Coromandel and VHF call came through repeaters on Barrier and BoP.

    Damn!!

Been with my wife for almost 30 years and feel like a rank amateur when it comes to those aspects. What's your secret?

As we're talking about a wooden vessel, this might be of interest: https://waitematawoodys.com/2015/05/15/electrochemical-damage-to-wood-the-marine-version-of-leaky-homes/
  7. Good wake up call. Just moved to an area I'm not overly familiar with and have now purchased a full set of charts which I will be using along with the plotter....

Thought this was an interesting story here: https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-sports/300138081/a-girl-and-her-wolf-attack-the-coastal-classic
  9. Most of the updates are here with the bonus of some photos added: https://www.waihekeworkingsail.org/category/circumnavigation-2020/
  10. No offence to anyone here but you may have a better response on this forum: https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/the-outboard-clinic_forum73.html Quite a few very knowledgeable outboard folk there. This one is more yachting orientated...
  11. Can't make that venue but would certainly front up if my local yacht club was to organise a similar fund raiser. Very fond memories of following the Whitbread campaigns...

Tend to do the same - keep well away and make intentions as clear as possible..

Interesting, I heard the opposite from an ex ferry master - he found it frustrating that stand on vessels didn't hold their course and speed and gave way when they shouldn't. Made situations harder to anticipate and manage.

Same, strikes me the first person to have to deal with the issue of something being deficient is me. Why wait / risk it for 6 months? Some of the vehicles on the road are going to be a worry. I've always thought that if a dude (or dudess) can look at my car or trailer for 10 mins and find a fault I didn't know about - I should pass my man card in. No sexist connotations intended...

Sea scouts are another group that enjoy them too...
  16. Yeap, been a few years now but I was involved in the distribution of these films. I'm assuming you're looking at lettering cut from coloured vinyl as opposed to something being printed on white or clear vinyl. High performance films were made from cast vinyl as opposed to calendered vinyl. Quite a different manufacturing technique and gave a film that was thinner, more flexible and more resistant to shrinkage. It's true that the life expectancy ratings are based on a vertical surface but even so you should be fine with a good quality high performance cast vinyl. Over 90% of the boat
  17. Looks like they hooked up a hydraulic power pack to operate it - smart thinking...
  18. They should be well practised - they have the same issue at Half Moon Bay with the addition of strong tides and one of, if not the most popular free boat ramps in NZ right next door.
  19. Here's a wet bus ticket case for comparison: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/114108284/tourists-dream-trip-to-nz-shattered-by-assault-while-freedom-camping-in-northland Similar fine with the addition of 9 months home detention despite leaving life-time scars on our guests, darn close to killing one of them and tarnished the country's reputation with his bare hands. All done while he was already serving home detention for earlier violence. Seems to be quite ok so long as you were whacked out on drugs at the time and can say you're sorry.
  20. Thanks guys, it was a phone call from a member of the public at work so I don't have too much detail other than apparently his stomping ground was around Little Shoal Bay, the Navel base and the ammo storage facilities. Seems a stretch to get to the other side of town.
  21. Thanks all, kind of confirmed things - at least I wasn't overlooking something obvious..
  22. Anyone heard of a Pipers Point - possibly around the inner Auckland Harbour? Someone asked for their ashes to be spread here and doesn't seem to be on a chart or Google.

Has it got some kind of a drogue? Surely it must?
  24. I would imagine Burnsco in Westhaven were charging the same prices as all their other stores. So unless they were matching or bettering their neighbours on a case by case basis, there wouldn't be much of a change?
