Aleana? So does this mean you've bought a new boat?
  2. How about this... Since they don't take number plates, and the permit is portable card. Why not loan your permit to someone who works in town, and charge them a few dollars maybe $30 a week. Maybe that is what Westhaven are worried about?
  3. Well, it's one of the toughest yacht races in the world. 1998 was the most disastrous in the race's history, with the loss of six lives and five yachts. 55 sailors were rescued in the largest peacetime search and rescue effort ever seen in Australia. So no wonder they are strict about safety!
  4. Wheels is wrong. Sail is faster than powered vessels for circumnavigation. Earthrace took 60 days. The current sailing record is 40 days. Earthrace was an amazing powerboat that holds the record for a powerboat to circumnavigate the globe (60 days, 23 hours, 49 minutes). The new world record was completed in 27 June 2008 by skipper and founder of Earthrace, Pete Bethune, and his volunteer International crew. On Friday 27th June 2008, Earthrace crossed the finish line in Sagunto at 13.24 GMT, breaking the world record by almost 14 days. http://www.earthraceworldrecord.com/

  6. ""Following this police have made the decision that there is insufficient evidence to file any criminal charges."" Doesn't answer any questions, such as how far out was the swimmer/ how close inshore was the Pilot boat...

Jo Aleh is not so happy about the VOR: ""What I had to offer the boat, which was in my head, just wasn't listened to. I'm just a female Olympic sailor, what do I know? And I guess that's fair enough, offshore wise but I just wish a male Olympic sailor who has the same experience was treated in the same way."" https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-sports/98671955/new-zealand-olympic-sailing-star-jo-aleh-hits-out-at-sexist-attitudes-in-volvo-ocean-race

Yes, there was a mutiny on AkzoNobel after Tienpont was reappointed skipper. But it seems no-one wants to talk about it.
