  1. Wood can also need painting more often.
  2. When I first saw them I thought they would be holed and sink. They were being pounded by the wind and waves onto the rocks between Doris and the lighthouse. I was amazed that they got off under their own steam. Some of the crew were spotted at the club afterwards looking not to bad, so maybe only a scratched keel?
  3. 5 or more years ago there was no problem and no time limits. You could park in the white bays all day any day. But they were mostly empty during the week. But then the big corporates (Vodaphone, AirNZ) have decided that they must have their offices in the marine precinct, the office workers started parking in the white bays, and it become a problem. So the marina imposed time limits, and started fining, which is good cause we want to keep the car parks free for sailors. However some sailors are getting fined which is a problem.

    BMW D7

My mate has got a BMW D7 sitting in his garage. He would probably want to sell you the whole thing though.
  5. Well I haven't had any problems so far. And at Great Barrier a few years ago in a big blow I was dragging anchor, so grabbed a mooring, and slept like a baby, while other yachts out there were on anchor watch.
  6. "With a monohull rule, ridiculous as it sounds, I could probably get out there and train, and probably be reasonably competitively again. But I don't think that is what the sport should be." http://www.sail-world.com/NZ/Americas-Cup---Coutts-threatens-return-to-Cup-if-monohull-chosen/156558
  7. On the other hand, there are plenty of moorings that are rarely used, and are taking up prime anchoring spots, so it you are doing the owner a favor by grabbing a mooring and putting it to good use.

    AC36

No, in the last cup it wasn't a percentage, it was the front 2.7m of the bow. http://www.sail-world.com/NZ/Americas-Cup---Constructed-in-Country-almost-wiped-in-new-Protocol/137604
  15. I agree with Clipper, the headline should have been "Ben Ainslie lends TeamNZ ram", rather than French didn't help nz.

So we just saw the first tacking duel of the series. Artemis vs Japan, 50m apart for the whole beat. Looks like match racing is possible in cats!!

So how would this compare to a Sunfast 3600, or an Elan S4 ?

    Pilot boat

Those pilot boats are dangerous. They drive too fast, and too close to other boats. Why were they so close to the beach where the swimmers are? At those speeds they should stick to the shipping channel
  22. Looks like Anarchy went a bit too close to Waihi Beach. Steinlager went out near Mayor Island and passed them. Only 38 seconds in it.
