  1. Sure, we can make that happen . . We are about a five hour drive from Toronto - you can stay on the boat if you wish . . quiet marina Beer can racing on Wednesday's . . . check the Sandusky Sailing Club website for other events
  2. Hey Crew.org - Our sailing season on the Great Lakes is now in full swing. If you are in the area, give me a PM and we'll get you on a boat. Serious offer. I would do this anyway, but your sailing hospitality when I visited your country makes it a no brainer. And maybe we can even steal a few of your Kiwi sailing secrets.
  3. So now both Tuke and Burling are in the mix for the Triple Crown. They both seem like good people, conscious of the fact that their achievements have only been possible due to fantastic support from thousands of people in the NZ sailing community
  4. You da man, KM - I know that you help a lot of folks
  5. Stay away from the middle of the channel with an adverse current in the light stuff. Looks to me like that is what Maphre did . .
  6. OK Mr. Wheels, ya got me again !! I plead guilty to responding before having watched the video. Our Club now uses mostly Windriders for other-abled sailing, but here are some of the many options out there . . https://www.google.com/search?q=disabled+sailing&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi3v9mP3YDbAhXitlkKHcboBfYQ_AUICigB&biw=1566&bih=750 Not too long ago, a blind gent from our area won a national level championship against sighted opponents. Quite a feat !!
  7. You folks are really good at that . . . Making golf, sailing and even big game fishing accessible to average people. That will get y'all a high place in heaven, or maybe a cuppa somewhere . . Clarification - this is not snark, but rather the spirit that I admire most about your fabulous country.
  8. Well, yeah but then . . . Gentlemen don't sail to weather either.
  9. Most interesting - thanks for posting. Note the LARGE number of wrecks in the Irish and Celtic seas.
  10. In the US where we have really lax retirement laws, the vulture capitalists also steal the pensions. The practice is now so widespread that there are consulting companies that specialize in advice on pension stealing. Kinda thread drifty, sorry
  11. Well, if you don't fund the Cup, you'll probably just waste that money on frivolities like food, clothing and/or shelter!!
  12. OK. I'll go there . . Why don't you techies re-power your blow boats with electric motors and generators? Would that not be WAAAY cheaper than re-powering with diesel ? And quieter ? And if you have solar, you would not need to run the gen all the time . . This bad boy will get you 2.7 HP of charging energy . . (but I do hate the weight of those big battery banks - if there a way around that?) https://www.target.com/p/2000-watt-ultra-quiet-gasoline-powered-inverter-portable-generator-with-parallel-capability-a-ipower/-/A-51011829?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=go
  13. (I at first had this posted on a less than ideal thread - so moved it here) Here is a 3-D radar image of the July, 2011 derecho as it hit the Great Lakes . Peak winds of 130 mph; big damage all the way to the US East Coast. Much more damaging than a tornado . . Guess you were hit with something like it .
  14. Demonstrating a negative righting moment . .
  15. Don't know which is worse - running out of food, or looking at your instruments and seeing a negative VMG.
  16. Admiring them tremendously - thanks BP
  17. The larger the boats are, the less time they are sailed. Jeebus, but what a beauty.
  18. Jeebus, you blokes have an achingly beautiful country . . and the boats are not bad either !!
  19. This happened near our Club in October - 30' Fizz vs. dingy (18' foot Thistle) Clear day, Thistle had sails up. Amazing that on one was badly hurt. Law enforcement was there, but seemed to have little interest in a prosecution . . https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/22491571_1725236277488080_3227210760022554604_n.jpg?oh=b49364903c8ac2c449505d6e46c4074f&oe=5B409C0D
  20. We let the ice fishermen use our docks in the winter . . much safer. \ (from Michigan)
  21. We let ice fishermen use our docks in the winter . . It's safer than going out on the open ice. Our sailing season will start in about a month . . cannot wait !!
  22. Major butt-cleat on the mainsheet there . .
