2:1 to LRPP.

looks like the naysayers will get their wish.

I wonder if the TAB will give me my money back if I ask nicely?

It doesn’t make sense that once a boat starts to gaP off they extend and extend. But they are supposedly similar in speed. So you’d expect the gaps to remain similar. we have extended 75m each leg. Is that a speed advantage we couldnt use in the first race because we had to do some many manoevres?

Yeah it sort of does. They are speed boats not manoeuvring boats so get clear ahead and you can dictate where you go which gives you the ability to get your speed where you want it. The following boat can't do that as it has to try and keep clear air while search for a passing lane, all of which costs speed.

Did Prada just do the exact same attempted luff that cost them R1?

TNZ was a completely different boat.  Pointed higher, better boat speed, and so better VMG.  No errors, better overall handling than the first race.

Still a pretty boring procession.  Watch the start and the first 3 minutes, watch the last 3 minutes, and you pretty much have seen everything worth watching.

Is it because the course should be out further in the Gulf to provide more chance of windshifts, but they want the course close in for the "benefit" of the spectator fleet?

If the latter, utterly ridiculous, because at the moment its a bit like cricket in that if you win the toss you win the match, and if you win the start in this AC you win the match race.

Think they were using that course to prevent large gatherings on shore, at the time of course announcement we were still in level 2

hopefully we'll be back to course c today

and a chance for local knowledge about tides and gusty spots

to help the boys overtake if need to be

It was interesting for one or two races just to see the technology but the actual racing?... yawn.

Yesterday it was a toss up between watching the AC or doing the lawns. It was an easy decision to make.

Interesting watching the media and it struggling with it all. Lots of 'Oh gosh how earth shattering good Emerites must be to get back in the game by winning R4'. Err....hello!!

While I expect the procession to go on and if it follows the first 4 races Emerites will win the AC, they have favoured starting side in the last race, ya just never know what may happen so don't lose all hope a race may yet break out.

I do want one to and I want it to happen in R5, after all the time, effort, pain, vast sums of coin that could have been used for social good and the being pissed around we all have to live with due to this f**king cup we want a f**king battle on the track not this nautical version of that early computor game Pong we are currently being feed.

They do seem to be aware of the publics growing realisation they can miss bugger all of Shortland Street as all they need to do is watch the AC start. But can they do anything about it? I can't see how without admitting they have a hint too much lemon in the current recipe.

But I watched 1.5 full races, gave up 1/2 way thru R4, this time which is different than last time when I intentionally went in to the Gobi desert and up to Siberia to avoid it. So Mr AC, you have covid to thank for at least one spectator (part time only)

My god there are some boring old men with selective memories.
I know you think you recall close racing with lead changes and exciting starts, but that is such rose tinted glasses nonsense.

IACC racing was in general so boring it puts insomniacs to sleep. Sure there was some epic racing, but in general, win the start, win the race. Just like now.

go on youtube and watch. My god its dull

Yet it was exciting enough for non sailor NZ'ers to become enthralled with AC yacht racing - so your personal contention versus the masses does not equate.

You obviously don't understand what so many are missing.

But that's OK as the AC organisers don't either.

What would happen if they changed the rules so that the boats have to enter the start box 3 or 4 minutes before the start?  Would that make the pre-start more interesting?
