Adrian has been around at least once before, won last leg overall actually Think you own him one

We have often had boats in this position and mostly they decide time on the water to be more beneficial than close racing, in RNI leg two you will only be in sight to North Cape and may not see another boat until you enter Cook Strait Enter longhaul, if no one else similar does and your going to be all alone we will swap you to SH. I did this in 2011 as was doing 2012 RNZ, in the 100 we were caught on the wrong side of a wind change, the finish boat said just send us your finish time 😂 That was the year the 40kts can in from the north and the yachts ahead wiped out and dropped rigs

That could be almost anywhere in the States

I could do this for you, However I’d really suggest you should be on board even if not skippering if you think your going to ever go offshore. Sure you would need to arrange someone to look after your kid but this is the perfect chance to gain so sea time with others that have it. 4 day passage in good weather with possible stop at Mahia or Napier if needed -

Not surprised ‘They don’t seem to consider anyone else when they set dates

Same in lots of industries here, Supermarkets being another IMHO it’s because of a history of a few large companies dominating the market and when a small guy starts they first try to strong arm them out and if that doesn’t work buy them out so they can maintain their large margins, they say it’s our small market but this is bollocks, lots of small countries around the world are cheaper in lots of ways than here. Mostly isolation that allows this but then again French Supermarkets in Tahiti are cheaper than here and that’s for food from NZ

Titanium is having a blinder 38 footer two handed and smoking 50’ers

Unless you have a barberhauler setup or like the new pogos low friction ring double line systems you will be set to the angles setup by the design and as stated above slower and wider boats will have a wider angle. Then you need to maintain the gap between headsail and main. Overlapperes are harder to sheet closer than blade type sails Biggest gains I’ve seen is outboard sheeting headsails once you crack sheets at all, this stops the leach from hooking
-
Blue line all the way, can’t sheet a sail as per green line The angle as per forstay comes down to sail cut and how you are using that sail in relation to wind strength and sailing angle IIRC there’s 10 hole positions from light to heavy for a #1 on a 1020, maybe more

I’ve been told that all of Auckland’s volcanoes are monolithic (only erupt once then move on ,nothing to see here) So going north may not help, the average time line between Auckland eruptions is 600 years and the last Rangi was 900 years ago. So if we could have the next one on a cross of Tiri - Channel and Little Barrier - Durville would make an ideal racing mark and ideally with a harbour on the east and west would be great too.

Yes member Very disappointed but didn’t expect anything else I and many others put a huge amount of time into training and marking out the race area with my own boat on practice days and race days to help a little to make it happen here. And Dalton has sold it all to the highest bidder, I feel a bit robbed. Then we wonder why people don’t volunteer now a days

Yes a bit ironic as the two small areas are 80+ metres deep and are the seed beds for the entire area and only accessible to commercial. These two beds were unknown until a few years ago and commercial interests got the powers that be to open up the commercial take from 33 shucked tonnes to 330 shucked tonnes because of these areas, this season the commercial take has only been 17 shucked tonnes So now they close all areas that recreational fishers can access. easy to see who pays the piper.

Pahi was 2014 iirc nevenka got around in 2008 Lots of older boats have done it, your much more suitable than some

Grind it Glass it Fair it Paint it

You generally find two types of boat owners. ‘The first and where you should aim for is the type that use their boats all the time whilst fixing small stuff, and the type that never or very rarely use their boats as they are constantly working on them. Most here fit somewhere between the two
