  1. Sorry Kevin you seem live on a different planet to me, agree to disagree I think.
  2. A question for the compulsory life jacket supporters, a few of the examples cite incidents on stationary vessels and wharves do you think it should apply to stationary vessels? If so when at anchor sitting down for a meal would mean have to wear a life jacket. A compulsory at all times law would be unworkable, at the moment most councils have a by law that states it is compulsory during times of heightened risk I think this is more than adequate. What about swimmers, the vast majority of drownings are in the Surf lets make them wear life jackets it would definitely save way more lives tha
  3. We have one as well if you miss Smithy.
  4. The Entertainer has a much nicer keel and a new rig for not much more money. If you have a look at racetrack the results are pretty telling. http://racetrack.org.nz/class.php?classid=15 No vested interest in either boat. Nice to see a few more performance boats coming to town rather than lead mines.
  5. My brother has one, nice roomy boat, avoid outdrives if possible lots of maintenance and issues.
  6. We have a bootstripe on ours painted with white anti foul, keeps the muck off without looking like the waterline is way to high.
  7. Would be good if YNZ could take this over for NZ boats, most are already registered there anyway.
  8. Boss has been retrieved, turns out the believed cause was impact damage. It has got to be one of the coolest craziest looking ocean racing monos ever.
  9. Maybe a bit too good of a test there Smithy, all but one of the new foiling boats are out with damage, the new Hugo Boss has had the crew airlifted off. From reports it's due more to the new monolithic construction than the foils though. http://www.alexthomsonracing.com/update/
  10. Anyone got some of this lying around or know where to find some need about 1.8 meters. Same as this stuff NF610 http://www.rigrite.com/Travellers/NF_Travellers/NF610.html

    Window tape.

If you get the right sealant it will come with a primer to put around the edge which protects it from UV, pretty much essential.

    Window tape.

We used the tape used to hold spoilers on for the SR26 along with simpson glazing mastic works a treat. I wouldn't be too worried about them falling off the old ones were also glued on with mastic and we had to hammer a chisel all the way around the window to get them off, took hours if they popped off they would be taking the side of the boat with them.
  13. Spent a weekend at the Mercs fantastic trip up and back as well as a couple of nice races around the Island. Pulled an all nighter bolting everything back on the boat including completely stripping and cleaning a few winches that had almost seized. Finnaly finished working at 5am and left at 7am. Was definitely worth it.
  14. Not really on playing the Man there Kevin. Sometimes having a degree just means being indoctrinated into a certain way of thinking IMHO. For what it is worth I had a day over 50C when I was working in Queensland i think it was 1996 don't know how they get them to become official, I guess it has to be recorded by a met service weather station.
  15. Any engineering firm would be able to machine it and fit a bush, good for another 30 years. Biggest part of the job would be removing it all from the boat.
  16. Good point Bally, looks like a bit of a loophole really. If you have a proper raft it has to be inspected but a self inflating dingy doesn't. Seems a bit off.
  17. I hate to say this but I agree with rehab. Spot on Rehab.
  18. Yep Graeme is a very helpful Guy. I blew up my alternator at Barrier a few years ago and he helped me wire up a replacement over the phone. Cannot recommend him highly enough.
  19. Rehab, you seem to have missed the point of my post. I was in no way advocating towing as a solution at sea quite the opposite. I believe an emergency steering solution needs to be robust but not necessarily very accurate. It needs to get the boat close enough to the harbour entrance or marina where towing makes sense towing in a rough sea would be a nightmare I'd rather heave to and wait. A solution good for getting a boat up the harbour and into the marina would probably be quite different to one that would stand up to a very rough sea.

Scratch that I see from earlier posts it's a new one.

Looks great, is the rig a custom jobbie or off something else?
  22. The 1/4 berths are very big, both doubles. She's a beamy beast.

    The good oil.

I wouldn't bother with synthetics personally, I'd go for cheaper stuff and change it more often. Pretty much any brand that conforms with the manufacturers specs would be fine.
