  1. Are the end fittings aluminum? If so you will want to insulate them from the carbon or you will get corrosion, aluminum and carbon don't go well together. Layup some fiberglass over the fittings before attaching them into the tube.
  2. That's what I understand as well, less than 100% charging causes sulfation in FLA's. The most common reason for the premature destruction of FLA's on a boat.
  3. From what I read in the Declaration of Eligibility document from MCA, you still need to provide a UK based person to be a ships representative, not a biggie would've thought....
  4. Cool! hope its an IMOCA not a VO65! Connecting to Alicante from Auckland, New Zealand, Bianca Cook, who raced on board Turn the Tide on Plastic in the 2017-18 event, announced she would be spearheading a New Zealand flagged team. © Ainhoa Sanchez/The Ocean Race Tony Rae (Trae), a veteran of six editions of the race, twice as a winner, as well as seven America’s Cup teams, is on board to manage the campaign. “After the race finished in The Hague, I was ready to go again and since then I’ve been working with Trae to put together a team for the next Ocean Race,” Cook said. “We have a dee
  5. Zane, I understand its happening soon, the owner of a cat we are crewing on to Fiji in June sometime is spitting tacks because they've been told they just miss the cutoff point, ie they still have to pay $1175
  6. I concur with SMU, team LadyHawk attended said course and it was awesome, learnt so much practical and relevant stuff. I almost look forward to stapling up a wound Dave and Beks have a huge wealth of knowledge, and have done a huge number of miles on yachts between them, and everything has practical experience behind it. No chickens were harmed....
  7. This is a great thread, lots of awesome info, thanks guys
  8. Well I'd rather the 0.1%ers used faux leopard skins, that's a whole lot better than destroying the real thing for a tasteless headboard, that would be a crime against mother nature as well as against fashion and taste
  9. Speaking of crimps and the associated tooling, what brand terminals and ratchet crimper do you use/recommend Matt?

  12. Luke hawk! lol Not ultrasonic, and no holes in the hull either, you hang the electrodes in the water and connect the power... it does sound too good to be true... which means it probably is
  13. Something for those that suffer from the dreaded barnies... Anyone seen/used this? https://barnacleridmarine.com/

  15. You wont regret the Excel, it gives us so much confidence that were securely attached to the seafloor. When we set it, there's no doubt or nagging what ifs... to be fair, we are comparing it to the previous anchor which was a huge CQR that would drag or not set with any authority at all. Sometimes the CQR was good... the Excel is great all the time. The Manson and Rocna are probably just as superior to the older styles, I just don't have any experience with those, mate of mine with a Bene 45 first, has a Manson on it, loves it.
  16. Another vote for the Excel, we have a N04 (16kg)on LadyHawk, which I is soooo much better than the CQR that it replaced. No contest at all. Digs in very quickly and sets off on its way to china the harder you pull on it. Thanks to the team at CRA for supplying, now however, I wish they would sell the Mantus dingy anchor...
  17. There's no such thing as reasonably priced carbon tube but I had great service and heaps of good advice from Tim at C-Tech I think I paid about $800 inc shipping and gst for a 90 x 6mm wall 1.5m long with clear coat finish and a layer of carbon twill on the outside to make it look purty. They also added some fibreglass in the required areas as insulation againt the alloy fittings that it will have bonded to it. Hope this helps
  18. 63' Paradox, a Nigel Irens design based on Fujicolor ORMA 60 moulds Or.... Finn, a N53 Trimaran, a Renaud Bañuls design built by McConaghy Boats

    Buckets

I read it as you can have a para sea anchor, OR a drogue, OR a proven device, which can be tires. You've got to have something, and you have multiple choices as to what that maybe.... that's how I see it
  21. "The term "ground truth" was coined in the geological/earth sciences to describe validation of data by going out in the field and checking "on the ground". It has been adopted in other fields to express the notion of data that is "known" to be correct." Learn something new every day...
