  1. I have the same question, but for the Zeus2, which doesn't have a sonar port. I already have speed/depth/temp.
  2. I like the idea... can you say how much it cost?
  3. Thanks Island time. those looks cheap enough I will try them out and see how it goes. The lewmar remote is waterproof, and floats. that seems like a good idea. but not a $700 good idea.
  4. My windlass is currently setup with a dinky up down switch feeding the relay. The dinky switch has to go, to be replaced with a pendant.. corded or wireless. Where can I buy a pendant? I see lewmar want around 700 bitcoin for their wireless gizmo. Also, on a charter boat I had recently, their windlass had a soft start/stop thing where it ramped up to operating speed. Seems much nicer. Can that be retrofitted to an exsisting windlass? I have the lewmar pro series 1000.
  5. The cruise ships will already have tugs on hand to park them... so they already have a boat handy to drop someone onto the dolphin 10mins before the ship arrives..
  6. For the vhf, b&g v50. You can get a wireless handset for it which is really usefull, and it has a built in AIS reciever
  7. Thats what I put in. Only been in the water 2 weeks so I can't really comment yet. Looks very nicely built. The guys at Henleys knew their stuff and were very helpful, and I do like the fact I can go in there and ask them if I have any issues..
  8. There will be a nut on the end of the shaft. This nut will be the next size up from any sockets you own. You will then go purchase the larger socket to find you also need the larger ratchet to put it on. After going back to get the larger ratchet you will still not get it undone as it will be tighter than anything you have seen before. If you do get it off, it may take a lot more force than a hammer to get the whole thing off the tapered shaft.. mine took a hydraulic jack and a little jig to get it off.. Good luck i just did mine
  9. This interests me, because id like to try the triton pilot but on a tiller steer boat there are not many options. Sd10 but thats about $1000 too much. So maybe the b&g pilot and a cheaper drive like this? Plus a rfu and precision9 compass?

    Freezer

Why do you say that? I think salt water cooled is a very good thing, the systems are usually 10x quieter without the fan of an aircooled system?

    Freezer

Or does it have to do with the direction of rotation of your engine? One side an upward force the other a downward?
  12. Mines in the head, which has a door. That is not a living area is it?
  13. I agree - and If you don't get any explanation, you should pay whatever you feel is fair, and don't give him any explanation for why you paid what you paid!
  14. What is the deal with 'borrowing' moorings like this for a short term (ie not leaving the boat), Ok to pick up an empty one to stop for lunch? What about a snooze overnight? Obviously, you'd have to move when the owner comes along.. Is there some sorta unwritten rule?
  15. This week I passed an ICC assessment so apparently, I'm competent enough to charter a yacht overseas. Anybody got any good charter stories/tips/contacts from Croatia?

    DIY autopilot

Oh its not. Its going to involve some hackery driving relays etc to the hacked open tiller pilot b&g want me to buy their spenny actuator

    DIY autopilot

This is a cool project. I've been considering going the other way. I want the expensive B&G autopilot computer, but i want the same cheap tiller pilot actuator. I think the b&g unit just has relay outputs , one for each direction of rudder. I've been considering wiring these up to a butchered tiller pilot with DIY rudder feedback like you've done That way I get their fancy tech for control (can control AP from Chartplotter or wireless remote) but with an affordable actuator (old tillerpilot)

    Dirty Rib

I don't know the answer, but I recently had my hull reglued to the tubes on my rib. It came back incredibly clean. I guess they have to do a good clean to make things stick, but this thing really looks like new. I should have asked them what they used
  19. Hi TwoSail that boat (la vagabonde) is on the hard in Whangarei. I chatted to Riley & Elayne last month when they were here. They indicated they would sell it here or possibly raffle it off. I suspect you will hear very soon their plans for that boat. Here is a list of the same model for sale (Cyclades 43.4) http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/category/type/Beneteau/Cyclades+43.4

    LED lighting

Sounds like you are describing 'Czone' or other NMEA2000 switching systems. NMEA-2000 after all, is actually CAN bus. The BEP Czone stuff is kiwi designed.. Looks awesome, until you see the price.

    LED lighting

I have put the opti up my mast recently and swapped out the fat dc cable with some which was maybe 1/4 the Gauge. Its absolutely tiny. Ill go look what awg it is. This is at 12v with no issues. Those optis will produce the same light output down to 9v or so

    LED lighting

http://misystems.co.nz/low-voltage-lighting/interior-led-lighting/ Saw these guys at a boat show once. they have some good stuff. they do the exterior lights on all the st johns ambulances. No idea on costs tho I like the look of that hella euro but would love one that does red as well as white
  23. weekend achievements - I took the boat out in darkness for the first time. Motoring only. Anchored in the dark. Didn't hit anything! Had three sets of eyes keeping lookout and AIS, felt like I could have done with a hundred more. The lights in the harbour are so busy!
  24. I spent the night on the boat in westhaven last night. What a night. The gusts were heeling the boat enough to spill my drink and knock things over..
