  3. If you are running a race, and deciding what category to hold it under, then probably best to give YachtingNZ a call 09 361 1471

    American Magic

Haha, did Ben Lexcen design those?
  5. Good to see one of NZ best ever Olympic sailors (Jo Aleh) doing the SSANZ on a Piedy! Who are those French guys on the Young 11? Do they fly in from New Caledonia for each race?
  6. Motor sailing from Tutukaka to Whangarei we were joined by a pod of bottlenose dolphins, who followed us for about an hour. We were loving it watching their jumps and turns. That was, until one of them started banging on the rudder, and then I got worried, and hoped that they would leave us.
  7. We struggled to hold our mast head kite all the way from Browns to Rocky Bay buoy. But we held on with a few round ups. When we turned around and went upwind, we were surprised to see almost all the Piedies and Young 88s with no kites up!

    A new seal

Yes, but Owha makes life very hard when on the pile moorings. Don't won't to leave the dinghy tied up out at the piles, and risk another $350 repair. So constantly ferrying the dinghy back and forth to store on the dinghy racks.
  9. Yacht racing is a self policing sport. In effect we are all referees. If you said that to a referee in any other sport you would be penalized.
  10. Wow, they've had her for 38 years. This is a bit like the Pardey's selling Taleisin.
  11. Somewhere near the Albert channel?
  12. I haven't looked at Smalltalk for the last few years. Not that hard to do...

    Rainbow II

"Rainbow shines again Rainbow ll – the 36-foot legend that kick-started New Zealand’s ‘modern’ yacht racing pedigree in 1969 – is back in the water after an extensive restoration. A handful of players contributed to her improbable salvation – including her original owner. Lawrence Schäffler."

    Rainbow II

Has Rainbow II undergone another restoration? A new article in the latest BoatingNZ magazine hints at a new restoration, then only talks about the 2013/14 work. Strangely they also claim that the One Ton Cup Revisited never happened in 2015, and that some other event took place a year later! https://boatingnz.co.nz/rainbow-shines-again Boating NZ themselves published a few articles about this in 2015. I guess we can't expect much memory or research from publishers these days... They could always have checked crew.org, there are 3 different threads on here about it going back to 201

  19. I have used normal antifouling on an Airmar paddlewheel. Didn't damage it.
  20. Changed, how much petrol did you take in the RNI and where did you store it?
  21. New sailing instructions: Looks like they now have the ability to move the start line, it is not fixed at Northern Leading. 8.6 iv) looks like a typo: "Emu Rock Iliomana Rock Beacon" - 2 marks merged, and one spelt incorrectly. 8.5 Lewmar Doyle Sails Short course "Haystack (Orapapa) Island," no rounding is given, presume it should be starboard.
  22. Great idea to split the smallboat division! It used to be strictly 26 feet and under, but lately has included bigger and bigger boats making it pretty tough on the real smallboats, and a bit of a mismatch.
