There is a Harmonic called "Mandolin Wind". Could be his boat?
-
Yes but Antaeus only got fined $200, and they said that was the maximum they could impose.
-
Apparently doing 27 knots, but not keeping a good look out near Waiheke. Wrote off another fizz boat worth 55K. Well done MaritimeNZ on policing the rules! https://www.maritimenz.govt.nz/public/news/media-releases-2018/20180413a.asp https://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/103075217/power-boat-skipper-fined-5200-after-crashing-into-capsizing-fishing-vessel

Using a trysail and a storm jib, on an old streetlamp pole.

New rule for personal dinghy frames on marina berths. These must now be made of stainless steel, instead of wood. Further increases costs.
-
Racing rules state that keels must be locked down at all times. So no speed gains with lifting keels if you want to race.
-
TTOP now down to 3 knots with Mapre catching doing 10. Under the rules they can't skimp on safety gear, but are allowed to skimp on food. Should food quantities be stipulated in the rules to prevent skippers starving their crew? Most racing rules say you must finish the race with all crew on board, so if Scallywag could have retrieved Fisher, would they be allowed to continue racing and get a place?
-
Good idea to join PBYC so you can keep your dinghy inside. Burglaries do occur there, so may need a burglar alarm fitted.
-
Are you sure about that? Auto-inflating jackets that use a hydrostatic trigger, need to be fully submerged to inflate, so could possibly be used by the VOR sailors.
-
Several boats with mast track problems. And now a broken mast. Wonder if Southern Spars will retain the contract for the next race?
-
ETNZ were just about to take the cup to Italy, when they came up with the Events Centre proposal that saved the day, apparently. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sailing/news/article.cfm?c_id=106&objectid=12024071

What happened to Cory? He did it last time in Atom Ant, then bought a Mini 650 to go further...
-
I am surprised that no-one bought the Reactor 25 that was for sale a year or two ago. It had done the Trans Tasman race, was fully refurbished, with all Cat 1 gear and sold for less than 30K. That would have been one of the cheapest ways to do the race.

Hosting fee is the running costs. So they need money to build the bases/ village, and money to run the event, regatta, races.
-
But their chain was only 40 metres.

Tourist boat "Mack Attack" has permanently injured 2 passengers, and had a near miss with a ferry in the past 8 years. Speed boat company ordered to pay more than $93,000 in fines and reparations after passenger breaks back http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12015682 Catamaran firm must pay $93,000 after passenger's back breaks on board https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/102391805/jet-boat-firm-must-pay-93000-after-passengers-back-breaks-onboard

Yep Mapfre and Scallywag took the safe option outside the Mercs. All the rest went through the gap then ended up close to Mayor Island. Currently they are tacking around Waihau/ Hicks/ East Cape. Could be some passing opportunities there. That Aussie skipper is a character. Said his is the only boat with no Kiwis on board, and he likes it that way!

Good to hear some encouraging comments from David Parker here... https://edition.cnn.com/videos/sports/2018/03/15/emirates-team-new-zealand-americas-cup-cycle-mainsail-march-2018-spc-spt.cnn America's Cup: How Team NZ won in Bermuda

ETNZ and Luna Rossa are good buddies. Dalton and Spithill not so much. Could this spell trouble in paradise? Dalton's warning: Spithill needs to keep 'his gob shut' http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=12012341

Emirates Team New Zealand need your help to ensure the America's Cup sailed in Auckland in 2021. The first part of this fight is to support the Panuku Development's resource consent application. Please take 10 minutes to make a Submission in support of the Application Submissions close this Wednesday, March 14, 2018 More details here: https://www.sail-world.com/news/202429/Help-Team-NZ-to-hold-the-Americas-Cup Submission form here: https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/have-your-say/have-your-say-notified-resource-consent/notified-resource-consent-applications-open-submissions/Pages/notif

Interesting to note that they have moved the western mark to the east of the harbour bridge. Meaning the race boats won't need to go under the bridge to a turning mark, unlike last time.

"Why would Team New Zealand want a "Taj Mahal" solution? It's completely counter to their 30-year history and culture." "The comment by the Mayor that ETNZ "will get the facilities they need not desire" is typical of the arrogance shown towards the America’s Cup winners, who have made an art form of running their campaigns since 1992 on spartan budgets for a total of 30 years of America’s Cup competition." If the bases aren't built in time half the benefits to NZ could be lost, as the visiting team members will pay no tax, and team spend could be halved. https://www.sail-worl
