As a postcript, when you are first monohull by miles and catching the cats in front of you, with a steady 8-10 knots of breeze, NEVER pat yourself on the back. Nek minute.....

What an awesome event. Shame about the breeze, but the beach BBQ and Breakfast was outstanding. Good blokes, good humour and a hell of a lot of effort put in with the catering. No-one went hungry (or thirsty) and Appleton's Rum spot prizes.. WTF? Thanks to BJ tyres for a superb effort. Next tyres from them for sure. Thanks to all the organisers, BBYC and Co. (Never good with names, sorry). And even though it was pretty much all light weather, I'm buggered!! Need a few days to recover. Cheers all, Smithy and Marshall Law.

Really nice write up Bluezeb. Great adventure, well done. You struck gold with Matt and Russ I think. Sounds like a tough introduction, but with good guidance, so heaps learned. Much better than struggling by yourself!! I have cruised alongside Sadler 32s quite a bit. Great boats that will take a good blow in their stride. Again, well done!

I got this made before the last RNI as it was a requirement. Just before the RNI there was a spate of abandoned yachts due to lost rudders which made me think about the scenario.. You really are stuffed if you lose your rudder and have no way to steer. I also figured out that on the Marshall I could drop the rudder through the bottom bearing and seal it if the worst came to the worst (jammed rudder due to hitting something). Of course this was all theoretical and in anger it might be another story altogether, but with the cassette, I knew I could mount it, even in a big sea, then drop the rudd
