Yep, tack-line out a couple of feet then halyard to the top between the two lower stays, then tack-line then sheet. Opposite to drop, grab sheet, tack-line away bring tack and clew together, bunch up and drop.

Thats all assuming you have space to run flat for hoist and drop. Gennakers only

I did see a boat hoist without the tack attached, someone that posts here from time to time, a boat that’s fairly new to NZ, orange, Asian name. But I’d never tell tails out of school

Makes sense - the photo is misleading - it looks like the tack is back by the mast  (not 2 ft from the prod)

No if you look closely you can see the gennaker tack a few feet forward of the bundle. We hoist and drop from the main hatch.

Haha.  Yeah well it was actually attached but the Martin Breaker…..broke….as we were hoisting.  Then it went again after it was reattached.  I have just been down to WH on a very chilly Sunday morning to fix it.  A bit annoying but fortunately for us we didn’t lose much as the breeze was pretty light. All these things are newly installed so we are still figuring things out.  All in all a pretty nice day out on Kaizen.

Always easy to moan but the handicappers got it pretty right. Nothing in there that looks out of whack. For some reason the boats behind finished a lot stronger. If you look at the first half of the fleet that finished on racetrack, they mostly only achieved around 95% of racetrack rating whereas the second half were most above 100%. Maybe the oncoming tide pushed them more, the sea flattened, or maybe they just sailed better

The wind at the finish line was all over the place, from 6 to 16kts and from Devonport to the Museum in direction.

Most of the early boats were tacking straight into the finish, were as some would lay in from north head, boats that went over to Orakei really seemed to struggle.

Plus the in coming tide helped the boats that went north head and in a lot, however some also over layed the finish due to the tide, it was a great afternoon to watch the different tactics, plus we were back in Westhaven with all boats finished by 2020hrs

Looking at those photos there is a certain wooden Y88 leading out......

We were probably first of the symmetricals to hoist and got deep and separated well.

Precedent was the only small boat to get away ok from the windward end, they did well to soak down on the back of the big boys. We had an excellent leg around the back and then it was simply a matter of holding on while the big boats / 1020s came back at us. We got the kite up with the others on the second reach and had an ok drop at the Noises. Watched the Frog step away from us but held all the other 1020s on the beat home - just. Never saw the other Y88s but see Nona beat us on hcp

John Barleycorn sailed a really good race. They also did well on the run out to Rakino then just stuck on our line and we couldn't shake them off by enough.

We had a really fun day on the Rogue II. Was a voyage of discovery for us learning what makes the boat go and what sails we actually have. No idea of the sail crossovers as we hoisted 2 old gennakers we had never seen and a new code zero that we had only checked to see if it fitted so the reach down to the noiseys was a bit painful changing between gennakers and code zero to find something that worked. The guys who had decent small flat gennakers made good gains on this leg. Watched Phil on the deep purple blast past us on that leg like we were standing still! They looked fantastic and rounded the noisies a few hunndred meter in front.

We lead our fleet for the whole race but they were never far behind. After the noisies we when sheeting on and headed upwind we heard a strange banging sound on the hull and thought we had collected a cray pot or something. Couldnt see anything over the side so did a backdown to clear it only to find the noise was actually the gas bottle banging the against the hull as the bungy holder was just loose enough to allow it to lean over and tap the hull from inside the locker. Big loss there but a simple fix and a lesson learnt. The beat back to the finish was great, flat water and 10-15kts with plenty of boats to try and stay ahead of. We played with sail trim and boat settings to find the best mode and made continual improvements in speed and height. Really close finish with the Salona 41 that resulted in a tacking dual for us to hold them off and the bigger elliott tourer Focus also coming at us quickly but we managed to take the win by a boat length. Handicap result was prety deep but overall we were really happy with the day and have a much bigger job list of improvements (and sails to make) to get the best out of the boat. 

After party was good and we had a full boatload of people. A few improvements need to be made on the stereo system as we overheated the subwoofer and had to shut it down temporarily to let it cool down. We cant have this happen again as its a real party pooper! Another job for the list...

Thanks to SSANZ for putting on a great day, could not have asked for better conditions.  After a pretty good start away from the carnage at the pin we managed to keep the rest of the fleet behind us and popped out of the Rakino channel with a good lead until the last stretch to the haystack where we got run down by Playbuoy and their code 0. Maybe we should have split at the haystack as some of the 88's that went left made Browns on one board, but as we rounded we were pointing at the finish so carried on right. Took a couple of digs into the Rangi shore but the boats that stayed out past the car carrier did much better relatively. The harbour was light and shifty, but no passing lanes for us, so a solid second on line and nice to finish in daylight. All the Stewarts were home pretty close together so we had the after match on Princess with Hard Labours oven working hard to deliver plenty of hot pizza. Good to see 11 Stewarts out there, pretty physical boats 2 handed so I'm sure there were some sore bods on Sunday. Roll on August!

Well the first proper race Daydream has done in a very (!!) long time - and no major mistakes really other than being overly conservative getting off the line. Shimmer (the other t34) got a jump early on but we managed to stay within reach out and back and got right up to them beating to the light house - almost picked the lay of the Rangi light house from out by the container ship ,just came out a few lengths low - hand bearing compass does work - win

Boat went sweet (like a 3rd crew mate) Sails were mint (thanks Josh) and have given the boat the right feel, course was cool, learnt heaps about the boat  - and now we know how much catering we need for the 100 (less than we took Saturday :))

Was cool having another old Townson caravan to match it with - next time Shimmer

Fingers crossed for a fresh, maybe even rugged 100 so we can get into those 1020's on the beat!! cant wait

Stunning day on the water  for the first of the Lewmar triple series. Shimmer got a good start to leeward of the guys fighting at the pin got a nice set and held onto the Stewart’s down to the Rakino channel. first race with the new main (glamor Tony thanks so much) and also first real test of our new balanced rudder (thanks Grey it’s a weapon!) managed to hang in there mid fleet to motuora but watched the boats with code zeros stretch out on us on the reach back. Probably made the wrong call going right at the haystack as a bunch of 88s got around us going below. Poorly advised headsail changes (yes 2 ) gave away even more ground and ended up having class racing to the finish against Daydream who had great pace in the dying breeze to the finish but managed to hold them off and take first blood in the world Townson 34 two handed champs. I’m with you old dog fingers crossed for a fresh to frightening 100 miler.

Hey Ben, the Beneteau we sailed as a family down from France to NZ we named Rogue.  I love the name and it's probably pretty accurate! A family gone ROGUE!

 So only fitting that the next family boat was called Rogue II.
