It's just containers.  Christchurch to Queenstown by truck.  Not that hard.

Coutts has already mentioned Queenstown with a twinkle in his eye.

Great way to showcase NZ.  I know the Otago Council is tricky to deal with but they might learn some lessons from Akl and Chch.

If Auckland then there's where's the course? ...........Up and down the habour (Westhaven to Orarkei)? Whilst it's a convenient Wednesday night course it's still a crap course on what we have to offer further out in the Gulf,

That was the  idea until council stuffed it up.... it would've been ideal for general spectators

There is a good chance the Black Foils will get dropped for next season.

4 teams haven't yet found purchasers of the team from SailGP, including the Black Foils.

SailGP want $34mil for the Spanish team, so not small change.

With all of the Black Foils team (or at least the brains trust) heading off for an AC cycle, will they even want to continue running a sailGP programme at the same time?

Now with the inclusion of a Brazil team, they're going to need to drop one.

Who will it be?

Burling not happy with race 3. He finally got a good start, and then about a minute later the race was abandoned. He was saying something about races in Abu Dhabi being started in light winds and not abandoned. There is a 16 minute time limit, so why not let it play out?

I see after today's sh*t show / drifterthon they have moved tomorrows start tome earlier by 3 hours, to 5am NZ time. Based on the forecast for thunder storms, they want to get some stable wind / racing in earlier in the day.

Even my missus couldn't understand why the blew race 3 up on the first leg. There is the race time limit of 16 minutes. Yes there was major wind shift on the course but that handn't hit the boats yet. Is there another time limit to finish the first leg in? If there was, as Burling notes, it wasn't applied in AbuDhabi.

My miss 11 says it is the most boring yacht race she has even seen. Noting she wasn't born when the AC was in 12m's match racing day in day out at turtle speed.

Shame they don't have the 29m wings still for these light days. In saying that, if there are thunder storms about, would you put a monster wing on? If the storm cell comes through it could get a little too exciting.

Whoop whoop

Love to take the family along, wonder if tickets will cost me a kidney, or my first born.

Wonder what the chances are of being able to watch it from the boat - not a lot of room for a spectator fleet off the tank farm though.

Auckland, Jan 18-19

Wonder if Northcote Pt under the bridge will be closed

How not. It'd be a big reminisce for me. I used to pedal down there as a kid and watch the citizen match racing. Great grandstand.

I cant help but feel this will be a one off or flop. Too many advantage points to be economical as far pay to view from a grandstand.Depending on wind direction the uper end of harbour, will to flukey unles the course is straight up and down harbour with no wing marks.Take a swnot a lot room to have a windward start. be something like Stanley poit to Westhaven then a very sprint to what Bayswater beacon area? Cannot see it working.Se can only be reaching up and down Harbour. E windward/running. Be great to see but just cant, nor can friends, see it working

Agree to disagree on this one. These things are truly F1 on water, accelerate hard, turn even harder, I think there's plenty of water out in front of the tank farm (or what used to be the tank farm)

Yep wind will be flukey in there, but so what? As long as there's enough wind to foil it'll be spectacular!

As for viewing, I own a cat, great viewing platform, and live on the Shore, so easy to get to a vantage point. But I'll still buy tickets, and go thru the gate, coz it's a great event, the big screens make a big difference (see what I did there! ;-)) and I've thoroughly enjoyed the 2 events in dolphin world. Even with the imaginary dolphin lay day this year!

Sail GP unfortunately never do windward starts.

As much as a Auckland SailGP suits me... I think the geography and consistency of wind angle in Lyttelton works better for the event as does the Christchurch riverside entertainment district after racing

I wonder why selling Tom has veneer entered the conversation. None of the issues being discussed exist there. There is heaps of space in oriental Bay and a great waterfront for grandstands.

Does any one know?

Auto correct!  I wonder why Wellington has never entered the conversation.
