Yup it's criminal the way exorbitant berth rates have slayed the value of moored craft. Those who own or manage marinas should hang their heads in collective shame and a plague on all their houses I say. We have been without a yacht for 3 years now and looking at the costs of ownership in today's terms we could no longer justify the outgoings. I have reached for a sail and oar alternative the LOA is far more compatible with my retirement income.

Priscilla II 414
The Admiral gave me a bit of a prompt to get the lawns done so I went by the mower shop on the way back to the ranch... Crikey it even has cruise control. 1 1
aardvarkash10 1,073
Looks like it would even tow a dinghy to a boat ramp. Beats an old Fergie TE

Has 4 wheel drive but the “glide steer”disengages the corresponding rear wheel drive to limit chewing whilst turning. The steering lock is also brilliant.

Must be the season, my stick 2 weeks ago was 270 kg without all the rigging... 460kg all up
DrWatson 382
Dropped the mooring lines at 15:12 and picked up a mooring buoy at 20.13, 39 miles later. Brest to Audierne, mostly 20-25 knts very deep so I played it careful and only when with the Code0, putting in an ugly first reef and changing down to the genoa about 5miles out from Raz de Sien - didn’t want to be caught awkwardly over ragged around there. Saw 13.8 on the speedo at one point and also had SOG of over 15 for a while. Should have reefed earlier (shouldn’t we all) and then would have had better balance to keep the code zero up for longer.
aardvarkash10 1,073
Left the Wairoa river on Thursday and motored to Home Bay. Ended up with a dozen or so out there for the evening. Left the next morning in to shifting and rising wind that turned west and the southerly as the day progressed. Out to Noises, then a single tack to Hooks Bay for the evening. Some great fun riding on 15 gusting 20 and nice with no ground swell in Hooks. Only 6 others in there Friday night. Saturday we left for Ponui Island but wind direction made it a trip via Whanganui Island (almost). Shifty at the start the wind settled early in the afternoon and we had a great ride to Ruthes and then inward to Kauri Point. Wind dropped to nothing overnight and so we motored home this morning in clear sunny conditions. Alternator failure on Day 1 left us without engine on Day 3 as we waited for the completely flat batteries to charge on solar alone. This forced us to practise sailing off the anchor, I reckon we weren't too shabby. 4.30pm on Day 3 as we approached Kauri Point we had enough for a single shot at cranking the engine. It fired! The alternator fault was identified and fixed and we had power to start again today. Fully charged by the time we got home. Great long weekend. Barrier trip in 2 weeks time. 3
DrWatson 382
Left Brest Sunday week ago at 1500 passed Raz de Sein at 1900 and parked in Audierne at 2000. Basically spent the next week hanging out there and then in St Marine (Bénodet) mostly working remotely and taking a few hours with the kids (school hols) before scooting across to the Glennan islands yesterday arvo and back to st marine today. Bit of a blow coming through tonight/tomorrow and already it’s a bit rolly here in the marina. 2

Priscilla II 414
I kind of regret parting with our old wooden log as it was way far less demanding than the house… Think I will add another extra metre to the Morby to suit the Navy Whaler oars.

Red has a certain appeal. All the trim ie cap rails thwarts tiller etc are plain unvarnished teak and the spars are carbon😀 May do trail boards old school flower relief cnc router cut and guilded but no room for a bare breasted figurehead unfortunately the Admiral wouldn’t agree to pose must be that my pockets aren’t as deep as Jeff Bezos.
Guest 113
This weekends achievement- anchoring in a submarine cable area (2x) avoiding possible fouling. By keeping well away from charted position lines of cable. Owhenaki bay, Waiheki. What got me was the number of boats that seemed to be oblivious of the cables and parked right on top of them. Did this with the BIL in his gin palace some 20 years ago and was a stressful experience! Had to cow hitch the cable with a recovery warp to unhook anchor. 40mm cable. HEAVY. Thinking disused as wouldn’t have come up at all. The cables were not on the navionics chart , but on the B&G app chart? Good to have two different suppliers chart to compare. Thinking about it maybe I had some detail turned off on navionics. Didn’t check.
