  1. I’m with Nautical insurance, underwriter is vero. Island Time is Sept 88. So I got the request for “survey”. Read the request carefully. The broker (Nautical) sent the forms with the policy renewal. It’s NOT a real survey, and did not require out of water. It’s a condition report, and can be done by a boat builder, surveyor, (and maybe some others). I got a mate who’s a boat builder to complete it for me. It did NOT ask for a gas cert ( which would be a problem) just that it was in good order and complies with nz regs. Which it did at time of install (but not with current version - that’s ok,

  2. We have 600ah of Lithium on 12v with a 3000w Victron inverter, 1.2kw of solar & 175A Balmar alternator. We've been cooking on a cheap single benchtop induction hob for about 3 years now and also recently added an air fryer. We haven't turn the gas bottle on for about a year now and are about to rip it out as I'm expecting the insurance company to ask us to get it certified. Yes we sometimes pull 200+ amps out of the batteries but that's what they are designed for. 2 x 50mm2 cables for both positive and negative side of the inverter cables. Our setup gives us about 3 days

  3. Revolution is one of the better ones. It has extra freeboard over standard and lots of experienced owner improvements. Not that I'm biased or anything.... The big advantage of the 1104 over a 1020 is the interior volume. The extra beam makes a difference. And Revolution has the best cockpit in a boat this size outside an E1050. Not tender at all - she is a dream to sail shorthanded in a breeze. if anything considered a little sticky in the light vs a 1020. Weight with all the gear, water etc was around 5 1/2 ton on the travel lift. If it gets any cheaper I might have to hav

  4. For those pondering a LiFEpo retrofit the battery, 3 KW Inverter, DC to DC charger, Solar Controller, and associated components are under the fwd end of the RH bunk in the photo. The space it occupies is modest and would easily be accommodated In a small yacht. The DC to DC charger is on the Bunk Front but has yet to Kick in (18 months ) as solar has been sufficient (440W of Solar on the roof)

  5. The gas cert was only part of the requirement of Vero, they wanted boat survey, rig check and sail replacement record so it was quite expensive. 30 year old boat was the trigger

  7. There's not really a date... Reality is the date will come and go and the only thing that might change is the price of gas... LPG will be replaced with bioLPG which is chemically identical to LPG, but can approach net zero emissions. You could replace your 9kg cylinder with bioLPG today and there'd be no difference, your appliances would operate exactly the same. The Government pipe dream of a 2050 net zero New Zealand signals that the transition will happen in the next 25 years Yes, approximately 40Ah at 12v.

  9. I'm pretty left leaning in general (sorry) but the idea that the tiny pin prick of emissions from heritage machinery should change their operation because of climate change considerations seems ridiculous to me. Although I've shovelled many tons of coal into 100+ year-old boilers over the years so I'm biased. Making any heritage steam operation work financially is very very difficult. Most volunteer rail operations are struggling to keep their steam locomotives running, except for a handful of very well run ones like Steam Incorporated out of Wellington. Add the complexity of hull mainten

  10. Solo Delivery Waikawa - Lyttelton - Ross 30 Ballistic Got up 3.00am Friday morning and drove to Picton from Christchurch , arriving at 8.30am, quick stop at Picton supermarket for delivery trip food. Inflated dinghy and loaded dinghy to get out to mooring. 15 metres offshore and flipped said dinghy....gurgle ... and who was the idiot who didn't close their 110 litre gear bag properly.... now a 2hp motor drowned... wet gear, wet sleeping bag and a

  11. Started off as a sistership to sportboat Animal Biscuits and was unsold until a chap from Queenstown had a modified Elliott7 trashed in the trailer compound. He asked Craig Partridge and Rob Shaw if they could modify the design to be trailer yacht legal using the rig from the E7 which he sold with it's old rig. This was done and in 2011 he took her straight from the yard in Kerikeri to Queenstown. Unfortunately the locals didn't like the concept and wouldn't let him play so in 2013 he parked it in his shed until early last year when he decided to sell it I found out about it in the f
