Four boaties not having a great day.

Hilariously referred to sometimes in the media as the “Outdoor” Boating Club.
-
Saw them zooming towards bean Rock at 1.00 pm today

Correct, but the nearby station on Whangaparoa Peninsula is a good substitute.

Another useful resource is this Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/haurakigulfweather Their latest post today has this to say: Coolest start to the year since 2017. A continued sequence of fronts from low pressure systems that commenced from around Christmas day, is the reason for a much cooler, showery and windier start to 2025. A large high is likely to develop over NZ by next weekend (Jan 11th) bringing more settled and warmer conditions mid-month. The tropics will become active around Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and Cook Islands region during this period but high pressure will

If you’re referring to the forecast on the coastguard app just be aware that it’s copied directly from MetService (as is the Maritime Radio broadcast on VHF).

Yet in Schedule 3 of the CAN notice it says: ”(2) Craft (boats) may enter and leave the Waiheke zone as long as they do not anchor within the Waiheke zone”

I can’t comment on the ePropulsion eLite but I’ve had an ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus for 3 years. Pricey ($4k) but fantastic. From memory the motor = 12kg; battery = 8kg so way easier to handle than a petrol outboard. Battery floats! It clips onto the motor easily. Best toy I’ve ever bought. No noise, smell, or fumes. No mixing 2-stroke. No need for petrol on boat. No carbureter problems. Battery is 1000 watts. I usually only run it at 200-300 watts. If I motor at 3 knots I get over 5 hours run time. Last weekend pootled up and down Bon Accord several times. Last summer went

Yes it’s on the RNZ app. Great interview; and he’s published a book about the voyage and loss of his boat.

Excellent rum placement 😎

Went past yesterday. Looks finished to me, but there were still workers there. Must be nearly ready. Hopefully will be available for dinghies to tie up.

It comes with a 240 volt charger so you can take the battery home to charge. But I have never done this as I also have a 12 volt charger so I always do a charge when under way motoring for a couple of hours.

My little 3.5 Mercury drove me insane. Was very reliable for 8 or 9 years but then conked out every time I used it for the next 2 or 3 years. Mechanic reckoned it was to do with some change to the composition of petrol (?) and that repairs to small outboards was their biggest money spinner. I ditched it and splashed out on an ePropulsion Spirit electric. Best thing I’ve ever bought. (Apart from the diesel heater) (And the boat)

Ah! So let’s be picky then. A rahui requested by the local iwi. Therefore can be wantonly ignored because some boat owners don’t give a sh*t. https://www.ngatipaoaiwi.co.nz/media-release-caulerpa-2.html “To mitigate the spread of this invasive species, Ngāti Paoa is asking for cooperation from the local community, and the fishing & boating communities from further afield, to avoid disturbing the seabed and anchoring in these areas as it risks unwittingly aiding the dispersal of Caulerpa fragments, thereby exacerbating the problem. A rāhui (restriction) on b

Just passing Onetangi, where there’s about 20 boats anchored in the prohibited zone. Sheesh what’s wrong with these over-entitled people?

If it’s going to be outside it’ll need to be protected from spray and rain. My boat is a launch so my setup just uses an ordinary iPad. I love Navionics. It syncs with my iPhone so you can create routes on one device and they appear on the other. Any old iPad will do the trick though as mentioned by Zozza above it must be a wifi+cellular model. It chews through the battery so you need to have a plug nearby for charging. I have mine mounted on this bracket - see pic …

Does anyone here have experience with a diesel stove?

Anybody know if it’s possible to top up the boat water tank anywhere on the Mahurangi?

Viaduct harbour beside the tidal steps. Depending on vessel height you may need to call on vhf to get them to open the bridge.

Forecast not looking great for those who want to go North....

Brin Wilson’s old “Buccaneer” I do believe … -
Pretty sure the port has the actual current tide height. I wonder if they could make it available to the public.
-
I think what Essjaywhy is asking for is actual live data, not predictions. I’d love to be able to access current live tide heights to determine if it’s safe to transit a bridge during king tides. The predicted tide height doesn’t account for variations due to air pressure.
