  1. bugger, that was a carbon mast too.
  2. does any one know if she was salvaged?????
  3. The youth are there, but in a minority and sailing is definitely competing with other activities. I see a fantastic group of youth sailing dinghys, crewing on big boats and owning their own sr 26's and piedies etc bt these guys are generally from die hard sailing families. One of the biggest issues is that adult dinghy sailing seems to be dying. Apart from the die hard zephyr fleet and few lasers where are the adult dinghy fleets? At Manly we've had a resurgence of kids sailing thanks to the Russell Coutts sailing foundation pumping resources into the club - yay!! But with 30 o
  4. Yeah it was pretty fruity yesterday. Tigre was going really well too.
  5. I'm pretty sure simon manning from boatworks has a couple of brand new y88 kites. Give boatworks at halfmoon bay a call.
  6. AMI declined to reinsure me after 2 claims ( 1 of which not my fault). I thought that was a bit harsh. I now treat insurance as serious rig losing stuff only even if its not our fault
  7. The Freedom video is out
  8. Multihull yacht club of course....as always.

    Trash Pumps

I heard a frightened yachtie with a bucket is a pretty good bilge pump.
  10. Freedom Coastal report As far as an upwind coastal went it wasn't bad. We got a crap start after a discussion about start times on the boat. Then just ducked Pulse in time to see the whites of Tim C's eyes ( sorry tim). We elected to short tack up the north shore and then around Whangapoaroa in flat water and had used up our coastal quota of tacks ( 5 tacks allowed for coastal) by Tiri. There was a discussion that Bon accord was looking pretty good if we weren’t laying Kawau!! We were going pretty nicely at 10’s – 12’s flying a hull working through the leaners. Just one hitch t
  11. raft up at Kawau on sunday night
  12. Russell .....slowly but hopefully on one tack Then Kawau on the way home for a raft up with the missus on the leaner
  13. yeop , very very sad, bit of a shock really. We caught up last summer at Motuihi at a mass raft, raft up. He was frail but in great spirits and seemed in good health for an old bugger. I feel for Pam. The first time I met him was several years ago in Chamberlains Bay, Ponui. We had a couple of Open Bics and were racing them ( yes Kids and adults) around the bay in around 15 - 20 knots of gusty breeze. Anyway Krisis was parked in the shallows so we used her as a top mark. After a while Cookie and Pam waved me over and presented us with a little wee trophy. They reckoned they'd so e
  14. Mike the manager at Gulf harbour is a good fella. He's always treated me really well. I've had a couple of broken winch handles replaced with minimal fuss or questions asked. Just make sure you buy things with your card ref on it and he can generally find it on the computer.
  15. I got new windows from psp in albany auckland when I last did them https://www.psp.co.nz/
  16. tim clissold is up our way based in Warkworth.

    Worlds

I was watching this with great interest. there was really good coverage of the regatta on face book. By all accounts our sailors seemed to lose out on the luck stakes a little. although some say you make your own luck. It looked like a prick of a place to sail. 90 degree windshifts, calm and choppy and then a huge squall coming through in one of the Finn races which by most accounts should have seen the race abandoned. they were abandoning other races for large windshifts etc.
  18. The Open Bic was doing pretty well internationally long before Mr Coutts got involved. The addition of around 60 boats supplied bt RCSF has helped the scene in NZ though.
  19. Congrats on the sale smithy, she was a great boat. Thanks for the opportunity to do RNI on her. Hope to see you out on a dinghy sometime. RS Aero looks pretty cool
  20. I reckon short course would be very sensible looking at the current weather forecast
  21. Cranking back up the ditch last saturday. 12 knots boatspeed upwind.
  22. yup we're with nautical in chc too. They're great 30k cover for a 40 year old cat ( although well kept and modified), race insurance, boat on a swing mooring, no survey required $800 odd dollars from memory.
  23. YOU OWE ME HALF A BOTTLE OF RUM COEN !!!
  24. Tough day for team Freedom. we were going really well until our main delaminated and a 1 metre rip appeared. very tough to watch Hooters and Attitude sail away from us upwind. A wee vid of the day.
  25. I'm not sure I entirely agree. For one, I know that sailing at 12 knots upwind and 15 - 20 knots downwind on a GBE is significantly more fun than 4 knots everywhere on an h28. The racing is really fun at high speed too as there are more passing lanes at high speed. if some one drops into a hole or gets a lift a boat which is out the back door can be right back in the game. I see kids all gravitating towards foiling boats and trapeze boats - because they are more fun to sail I am interested in the golden globe but I think the VOR or Vendee globe is more of a spectacle
