  1. I prefer the boat building/restorations over the pleasure seekers. Parlay’s been fun during the rebuild and bulkhead issue. Ross in Aus is a good watch.SV Seeker is interesting. Acorn to Arabella has been good but I think they are now slowing down to make the thrill last longer. Leo rebuilding the Tally Ho has been very informative. I’ve learned heaps that I didn’t know about how boats go together from watching these.
  2. Hmm. Looks ominous. If GD does own TNZ then the Govt really shouldn’t give him $100m. Mind you they are giving similar amount to Amazon to film LOTR here on the basis that money=jobs. I’m still disappointed.
  3. I’m disappointed as I feel that TNZ means it represents me. As do the All Blacks, Black ferns etc etc. But the reality is that sport is a business and the AB’s etc are owned by the Rugby Union not NZ. TNZ is owned by…? Surely NZYS? Mystery is what the governance structure is. There’s no doubt that overseas teams are owned by their backers (Ernesto, Larry etc). But TNZ? It’s sponsored by Emirates not owned by them?
  4. Have to agree there BK. This vid just released to show comparison to a Leopard speaks volumes about low build and design quality of the Lagoon. thinking about 80Tonne of load (if that’s the right number) primarily supported by a single sheet of ply is astonishing. The beam structure of the Leopard seems more appropriate.
  5. not sure if anyone been keeping up with this issue: Facebook page for owners really needs to be checked if you own one or know some one who does. https://www.facebook.com/groups/902269000568556/ There are three you tube channels with the problem. they’re hurricane damaged ones so won’t get help from the Company but it looks like a build/design issue.
  6. Make sure you discuss the prop. Not all props get the boat moving backwards. We put a high thrust on our Yammy 9.9 and it transformed it.
  7. This guy has dozens of great videos testing of different t anchors in differing conditions and veering. Ploughs rate very lowly and my experience is that a plough won’t reset once the boat is moving, which his video evidence confirms Watching them all will take a while.

    SailGP

Ainslie improved out of sight and deserved to win the final. Was flawless. while our boys looked awful and improved to be ordinary

I wondered if they don’t have course planning software per AC. Lots of times Lay lines missed, esp TNZ 2x.
  10. Similar here. We decided that when with family we would only ever roll out the headsail and otherwise just motor. Reflects our Age, stage and family I suppose.
  11. Thanks Muzza. That’s interesting to know. thinking about life before VHF is similar to explains to my children what life was like when we only had landlines.
  12. Wish that was always the case. Only time I nearly lost a boat was outside a marina in moderate conditions when engine stopped (air in the fuel line). Lotsa fiznasties passing by and none responded to calls for help. Had to wait for CG while fending off the sea wall. Always glad to have paid my subs and make donations
  13. Us too! It’s a bizarre change.
  14. Wheels, I don’t know anything about your situation and Am not prying but don’t give up the dream! There are myriads of opportunities that come along if you can be right place right time. My first keeler wasn’t even mine. Just an older 21 footer that the ex-brother in law wanted someone to use while he was posted overseas. The theory was by using it I would maintain it whereas it would just deteriorate sitting on a mooring. My second boat was a trailer sailer that I took off a friends hands for $3k who didn’t know how to deal with the rotten trailer.
  15. That would be evil with wind against tide.
  16. And walk to the falls at Peachgrove. spectacular fishing/spearing at never fail rock.
  17. Same number. Same place.
  18. PB called it the Ngapipi shift. If it’s true it worked. I don’t think it was a fluke. Did anyone watch the 49er worlds? He did exactly the same thing in the last race to jump 4 places and win the event.
  19. Now that was interesting. We saw it once before in a pre Ac regatta in New Yoirk for the last edition. TNZ was Well last then and everybody sailed into hole and TNZ sailed around them. If your off the foils you’re nowhere. I know the feeling of watching the fleet sail away so sympathetic to LRPP
  20. That was enjoyable to watch. Now to go 2 up.
  21. It doesn’t make sense that once a boat starts to gaP off they extend and extend. But they are supposedly similar in speed. So you’d expect the gaps to remain similar. we have extended 75m each leg. Is that a speed advantage we couldnt use in the first race because we had to do some many manoevres?
  22. 2:1 to LRPP. looks like the naysayers will get their wish. I wonder if the TAB will give me my money back if I ask nicely?
  23. So, Pork Chop has 7 x 12mm halyards. What do you reckon the weight saving would be is you did us a tranche of these laminated replacement? P measurement is about 14m
  24. That’s because the boats are even but have different traits. LRPP are more manoevreable ETNZ have slight straight line speed. When it gets close it will be interesting. Match racing is like that. a worse outcome is that one is clearly superior to the other and that becomes a procession. So I’m grateful that there is some tension, if only at the starts.
