And to add to that OBC and Milford in Auckland give you a fair indication of the true costs, of course having one person owning Westpark Pine Harbour and Bayswater will not help prices drop. Still the only reason for Westparks high yearly Opex seems to be their readiness to accept a large number of liveaboards, and ignore the local councils maximum percentages. I look forward to the new facility on the Northern side of Westhaven making things easier for a number of liveaboards down there too.

Yes its a mystery to me how westpark get away with the highest Opex charges, not many years ago we were introducing willing sellers to willing buyers of 12M berths up there on a Saturday morning at the chandlery - the price set was $5.00 each 12M berth. As far as I can see there is no reason for it to have risen, quite the opposite we had full access at all tides then! Of course even the chandlery has collapsed now.

Not the first cat to sail itself over on a mooring, we had one start coming across the yard at Okahu Bay hardstand one year and another flip off its drums.

Can be surprisingly easy to get rid of ferro boats, I was involved in removing a couple some years ago for a previous Harbourmaster, we tied them to a barge and got them as high as possible on the ramp at Okahu Bay then removed any usable fittings and with a very small bobcat tapping the hull and loading a tip truck reduced to stuff sweepable with the yard brooms within 15 minutes -- nothing to see. A bit sad that somebodies 70's dreams should end up like that - but that is the market. Also the one that hit Tapeka point on its way to join the cruising rally a year or two back dissolved fair

ETNZ appear to be heading out for a rum race....

You could stick some 3M green pads to Happy Teeths back and pull a mullet on a string around your boat - but she might get angry.... Less mullet in the marina this winter and she is getting fatter.

Interesting listening on radio to the warnings from our own Dads Army CD telling people to stay away from the sea while crawling along the Northern Motorway at dead full tide - actually saw the surge all 2" of it. You have got to feel for the rail commuters when the eastern line was closed to Britomart- whilst leaving the waterfront open and Northern and North Western motorways going, haha and this hours after the Barrier had reported a 6-7" rise . From recent history we know on the Northern coast that the likes of Tutukaka will feel it worst from this type of surge and Auckland nothing much

But back to the question, why a dinghy from Aussie? says he who still rows everywhere.

More the size of the boat sailing itself ie visual/radar target I would have thought

There is a product called Max Wax in an aerosol tin, clean shaft acetone wipe, warm with paint stripper gun and apply - have got a year out of it on a fairly regularly used prop -great value

The wright looks interesting, as long as she balances properly, for that sort of money a lidgard 36, Cav 39 or P38 is in the mix for well proven local boats

That NZ freeze dried tucker is good stuff, and I dare say booboo's gennaker probably helped, well done to the old devil. -
Cycling may drop a bit after this, I still want to know which local board candidates are backing the Takapuna grand plan so that I can spread the news along the shore.

Used to use them in my Electron, but life was pathetic so just bought quality batteries and enjoyed the major difference 6-8 times the life. Compared to the cost of the grog we drank at Orakei Basin batteries were minor

Wheels is correct re engine details, these particular props just give the knowledgeable owner another option, combined with good manoeuvring thrust at low revs around a marina and less prop walk in reverse, (the blades are propeller shaped not flat paddles and have the same leading edge for forwards and reverse. Calculations have to be made for every boat taking into account all the variables which I do to ensure the engines power is utilised correctly.
-
Well since you asked... I can clear up some of these points on Gori props The overdrive feature, (on three blades only) is engaged only by going in reverse at say half a knot then shifting into forward and off you go with approximately 15% more pitch. It is designed for motorsailing or light weather - as can happen around our summer or half way to the islands. No slamming from gear to gear necessary. To disengage just shift to neutral wait for shaft to stop rotating then into forwards again, the engine will not reach max rpm in overdrive so you don't ask for that from the throttle, howev

Boat in for another sail today--rum race anyone?

For sale for some time with Yachtfinders Global, with a very catamaran price.

Looking at the pic in the Herald, she looks like a little Maurice Griffiths boat, and looking at the weather conditions, perhaps an ill advised trip at this time of year without experienced crew. The boat does not appear to have failed .....

Might be slightly more than 10% on a Whiting 29 at say 6 knots, if the fixed prop is sized correctly you should have good forward drive and moderately quick stopping power but with a little prop walk. What size diesel ? and do you know your gearbox reduction ratio?

If you have a mooring in Okahu Bay -you should be aware that Akarana proposed before the Marina was built to agree to remove all swing moorings from the bay and have them repositioned elsewhere in the harbour. At that time (the late eighties) there was still great demand for swing moorings in the harbour, and to his credit the Harbour Master - James Mcpetrie stood up and spoke against this as impractical. The fact that Akarana was putting this forward as a sop to the Tangata Whenua without consulting the mooring holders was amazing enough-most not being members anyway. Obviously this has com
