  1. Maybe try the Mangonui cruising club jetty?
  2. "Kate", the boat that Mike Delamore was raising money for is now sailing again, and there is an article in BoatingNZ. https://boatingnz.co.nz/waiheke-working-sail-trust/
  3. Vandals ransack and loot luxury boat stranded on rocks The luxury pleasure boat salvaged from the Auckland Harbour last night was looted and ransacked while it sat stranded on rocks for days. Leather interiors were slashed, fittings were torn out and the fire extinguishers were sprayed through the boat, coating the interior of the craft in a caustic foam. Looters also stole all the alcohol that had been aboard the boat. The boat also suffered extensive damage to the exterior when it ran aground. Both engines were ripped from their mounts and the propellers were bent and broken. Mulg
  4. Jet ski boom on coasts increases risk of serious collisions, Water safety group says Once you could go to an isolated break in Raglan and find only a few surfers dotted amongst the surf. Now, it’s not unusual to find a crowd of jet skis vying for the best wave, Mark Haimona says. Jet skis are being increasingly used by surfers to access challenging breaks, Haimona said. “In Raglan, the locals are saying I don’t want to surf the points because everyone's there, I want to go and surf Mussel Rock. “I turn up there and my God, there's 10 other skis.” https://www.stuff

  6. You could potentially use the fuel dock next to the General store for a short while if its not busy.
  7. If you need a lot of stuff at good prices, then go to the Countdown at Waitangi. It is a proper supermarket. If you need a few things and don't mind the price, then the Opua General store, Paihia mini-Countdown, Paihia Four Square, or Russell Four Square will do.

  9. Sorry what I meant was Youtube 10 secs behind TV1. They are both about 1.5 - 2 minutes behind live action. On the water you have to listen to PJ on the AM radio for no-delay commentary.
  10. Youtube is about 10 seconds behind, and the picture quality not as good as TV1. However with TV1 as soon as the race finishes you get adverts, and miss the race recap highlights, plus the interview with the skipper. So what I do now is watch the race start to finish on TV1, then flick to Youtube for the between race bits. I guess it depends if you prefer Lester/Robertson or Read/Outteridge as well.
  11. Sounds like Ben Ainslie is trying to blame the foil cant mechanism, but ETNZ has just put out a statement refuting that: The foil cant system (FCS) is a one design supplied component designed and developed by ACE for all competitors. It has been used since the inception of this class. - All teams are responsible for the installation, ongoing maintenance and operating procedures of their own systems. - All teams are provided with full operating and maintenance instructions and programs to ensure effective and reliable performance. - For the past few months there is a
  12. Turn on your radio and tune to Gold AM 1332 to hear the legendary Peter Montcommentary.
  13. Westhaven marina. 10m = full, waiting list 6 months. 14m = full, waiting list = 2 years.
  14. Commercial fishing vessel offences 10-times higher after Ministry for Primary Industries starts tracking location information There's been a 10-fold increase in detected offences since commercial fishing vessels were required to give geospatial tracking information to the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). Data released to Newshub shows these offences include fishing in marine reserves, not having an observer, and submitting catch data too late. MPI's digital tracking system monitors the movements of commercial vessels across New Zealand. "It's all about behavioural ch

  16. Jetskiers to be fined $200 if caught by new radar gun if speeding in Bay of Plenty waters Bay of Plenty Regional Council's Harbourmaster team will be trialing the new tool to improve safety on the water this summer, aimed at catching jetskiers breaking the boating rules. Regional harbourmaster Jon Jon Peters said warnings and education had been used instead of issuing fines over the last couple of years, but a large number of jetskiers were now flouting the rules - that needed to change. This summer a $200 fine will be issued to those that ignore or break the rules. https:/
  17. It may be a little early to decide, and probably better to wait till they reach Cape Horn. But so far, the foils in the VG are more prone to damage, but the attrition rate was higher in the GGR due to rolling and pitchpoling.
  18. "No hull maintenance can be undertaken on the foreshore. This includes the cleaning, scraping, sanding, blasting, painting or anti-fouling of a vessel hull on the foreshore." "The only exception is at an authorised facility, such as a consented grid (with approval of the grid owner and following grid rules)." https://www.nrc.govt.nz/maritime/our-marine-environment/cleaning-your-boat/
  19. What will happen to Jean Le Cam? Is he allowed to continue racing with 2 people on board? If so, Kevin will deplete his food, and JLC will starve before the finish!
  20. Could the same thing have happened to Alex Thomson if he had continued?
  21. Thanks Rossd. Where did you get the new batteries?
  22. We have been through this all before when they introduced the limit. It was originally planned to be a 10 knot limit, but after consultation they set it at 12 knots to reduce wake because some launches can't plane at 10 knots.
  23. BP, you need to click the blue "Have your say" button, then on the next page scroll to the bottom and Sign in, or Register, then the online survey will appear.
  24. I will not feel safer with launches coming at me at 18 knots. Even with the current 12 knot limit, there are quite a few that exceed it. It would be better to allow ferries to do 18 as their drivers are much more compentent, and keep the launches at 12 knots.
