  1. Past hour
  2. We have blackout curtains for use in marinas. Also have few houses that seem scared of the dark.
  3. Happens quite a bit, although the management can be a pain, I know people who have moved back into the main marina as a result.
  4. Ironically that’s probably where the bad fuel came from …might be a rort 😂
  5. Today
  6. One bad batch of fuel and the ship has to be sent to Singapore?! Is this ship robust enough for us, or are we just that short sighted when it comes to maintaining skilled people and capability?
  7. this idea just sounds like an annual registration with levy to me those disposal (and admin) costs go up with inflation, and the existing abandoned boats wont be paying any bonds I'm surprised that the aluminium, copper and lead aren't enough to cover a an old rusty digger smashing it up for an hour.... but I suppose it gets to be made much more complicated than that.
  8. "A proper lookout is not required at all times at anchor. However, at times a proper lookout will be required at anchor, such as when the prevailing circumstances and conditions indicate a risk to vessels or people. "Generally accepted standards of seamanship will always apply, even if a continuous watch is not required. The master is responsible for ensuring an adequate watch is kept that is appropriate for the conditions, such as intermittent checks and the use of anchor alarms." common sense prevails! becoming a rare event these days it seems. good - I'd never get any slee
  9. Interesting discussion here, having just had recent drama again with Westhaven mucking us about on the Pole moorings - they clearly have no plans to keep any cheaper options available long term. $450 a month for an 8m pole mooring! - it's 5 times the going rate from harbourmaster or any boat club. It's really no wonder though that yachting is getting older and less of us younger generation are taking it up - all our money, time and effort is being sucked up into real estate via rents and mortages. There certainly is a reckoning coming via westhaven in 2026, and while it's totall
  10. ..... what about boaties looking to rent a berth without buying an apartment? Sounds like owners can lease them out, so I suppose we just keep an eye on trademe?

Missus wanted to know what all the bling was for, I blinded her with science and her safety. If only she knew. Not being sexist, she ain’t stupid and regularly goes on flights of fancy with her tech. Just that I know she has zero inclination to find out that my stuff is expensive for what it does and superficially accurate.
  12. My wind instruments date back to the ark , but I have my own system if the sails are flapping it's gone forward, pull them in. Every now and then give them a bit of ease for good luck. If the rail is in the water put in another reef. if the rail isn't in the water put the kettle on
  13. This! CD just spent more than the total capital value of Stepping Out so he could identify a 2% difference in wind speed. Not knocking at all. I wish I had the $ to do it and the brains to make it worthwhile. Different uses and priorities.
  14. That does sound good ~ our house insurance alone was over 3 grand this year.
  15. Yesterday
  16. They all vary - not all houses have berths. Effectively there are 2 sets of fees - village assn (ALL properties are members) and the subsidiary BC's of which there are multiple. Our one is a group of 12 townhouses. Our total fees (incl the 15m berth) are about 10K - but that includes all exterior maintenance, rubbish collection, insurance etc etc. IMO its a great deal...
  17. good idea I reckon. GH turns away the offshore vessels quite a bit now - "Full" apparently. So I guess the prices have not (yet) caused an exodus...
  18. @Island TimeIT - what are the body corp fees for the apartment like where you are?
  19. Got this last week from GH Marina: View this email in your browser
  20. Ha Priscilla I bought some Navy whaler oars at the Torpedo bay auction and for the last 25 years they have had another life as a Nutshell pram lug rig set of spars . (quite good Oregon)
  21. Everyone is a leaseholder technically but it is like an owner, it has renewed with the council once since I've been there with no change noticed. The purchase price is fixed by the Society and all sales go through it.
  22. It's not unusual to get enquiries for gh apartments from people wanting the berth and then rent out the apartment.
  23. For some reason I don't follow, the value of the berths is not really added to the house values in the village, and we have even had lawyers tell prospective buyers not to buy here as the berths have annual fees! With that, though, I'd also say, you DONT own the berth, you just get a license to occupy while you own the property... But you have basically the same rights as if you did own it - you can rent it out etc, to all intents and purposes its yours...
  24. So what you are saying is, marina berths in Auckland have gotten so expensive you can buy one and get a free house?
  25. that is very cheap. however prices rising due to maint is an issue we all face - the GHMV marina have a sinking fund for this - we just did a half life survey and replaced another 50 piles - steel this time. The fees I quoted above reflect the actual costs of running this marina. Without a hardstand or toilet/shower facilities...
