  1. The way I see it is that most boat engines are sucking in warm/hot air all the time. with an external Air intake to the engine with filter your engine will get colder air. However that is easier on launchers than yachts.

    Blue lights

You are right on the button. I was in Mansion house bay last year when I saw one for the first time on a new 18ft trailer boat parked next to me. Had a talk to the owner the next morning, and asked him about it, he told me that it was fitted on the boat when he brought it. ran in to him a week latter and he had a white one, He had gone back to the dealer and was told that he could have any color he wanted. He had taken along the reg's and showed it to the dealer and the person was "very surprised had never heard that before". Last week there was a 40ft yacht in Bon accord with one.
  3. Regards speeding tickets in boats. If the speeder has a road licence and one is given a ticket for speeding in your boat, you also get brownie points against your licence. I was informed of this a couple of years ago by a well known boating person from warkworth. No car was used in the offence, and he found out when he received the notice to walk for 3 months, as he had exceeded his allotment with the last offence. "exceeding the 5 knot rule in a controlled waterway". Now there's something to think about.

    Injectors

I have always put new washers on the injectors when ever I have removed them. When I was an apprentice a great number off years ago, our boss at the time impressed upon us the importance of doing so with his boot.

  7. If it was the same one that my mate an eye sheltered from on the south side off chamberlains in the Tamika straights we both thought we where OK cos we had the same distance apart, until I released we where slowly moving and let a sh*t load more rope out. Phoned my mate told him what was happening figured that I would not get to Cleveland before day break and went to sleep. Woke up in morn all good lucky.

    Boat wifi

I have a dongle that is linked to my phone data, plug into laptop all go don't know if that helps. Am using it now to send this message.
  9. Panels with inbuilt controller are ok. If you are not ever going to add any more panels. If you do, any new panels will not add extra as there controller see's that power is coming in to batt and will stop. You can only have 1 controller per system That's why your panels don't ADD while engine is running, unless said batt's are isolated from the engine charge system. IE.. House batt.......start batt.
  10. 1 Launch 2 tenders I'm just not keeping up bugger.

    LED lighting

I agree I went home and pulled stuff of the net including a printout of the notice to marine suppliers from the ministry. And took it all down to them. Result "not much we can do about that" and they still sale them. But I don't buy ANY light stuff of them and keep telling them that. I go in there for the odd bits and bobs and look around and say something along the lines off "I wont some light bulbs fittings, bugger will get them some where else as your stuff will get me killed. And they laugh.

  13. Came across This last night worth a look. https://unreasonablydangerousonionrings.com/2017/10/31/19-reasons-this-survival-story-smells-fishy/ I would like to have seen a photo of the other side of that boat. Having spent time in rivers in the past on board, That side really did look like the lea side gone shitty for lack of sun then gets baked on. And a really clean underside, Can we get that Anti-foul?
  14. You fixed it, that's what you did.
  15. For the last few years before retiring I was driving trucks carting sand metal and the like onto jobs like the waikato expressway. The site rule was if out of vehicle one must where a hard hat. However each morning there was a site meeting about stuff, We would park our truck and other vehicles on the side of road and carpark. One morning the H/R women gave all us drivers a rarkup for not wearing our hardhats to the meeting. Well one of the drivers was a very attractive young women who proceeded to inform her that "she was not there for her to get her rocks off, by fantasizing tha

    Batteries.

Over the years I have been on three boats where the battery switching thingy's have failed, the one on the boat I had in Tauranga caught fire. Since then I have instilled a single switch for each bank of batteries. Plus a third one that joins them together for charging etc. This way I control what happens and so far have not had any problems.
  18. Had that happen at southeast bay mayor island. On mates boat drove in dropped pick in middle off bay, then found that the gps had us about 300mts the other side of beach. Same machine had us running over a jetty in great barrier. when we where 200mtrs away. Mate replaced the gps and next trip to mayor parked in about the same place but we where still on the beach. Nothing beats your eyes.
  19. The Harbour Access Trust, registered in 2007 with a board of Ralph Roberts, Dave Donaldson, Peter Montgomery, Peter Wall and Sandra Wakeford, was established for seven aims - none appears to cover this project. Chairman Peter Wall says it was set up to get wharves built at Takapuna and Browns Bay. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/aucklander/news/article.cfm?c_id=1503378&objectid=11004302
  20. I do think that there is two types off liveaboards. There is the people that a living on there boats in marinas, And there are the people that liveaboard but are on the move all the time. I am one off the latter and am convinced that there is more off the moving liveaboard, than the static. I am seeing a lot of the same boats all the time.
