  1. You mention this as if it's a real thing, when in fact the plan is to wait until flying cars come out
  2. There is a totally green option of burning seal oil
  3. The ones I can see seem to be heading NE, maybe heading for French Polynesia?
  4. That link doesn't work. In itself it is unimportant but I see now that it is all part of a global conspiracy (I just wanted to join in)
  5. "A militarized oil tanker is not ideal for delivering emergency relief." - Agree. Lucky what we have isn't one. "Tight logistical operations can be delivered by any competent organisation, not necessarily military at all." - Cool, can't wait to see lots of competent organisations sorting out the next Pacific Islands natural disaster. Although it's a pity that they've been keeping their powder dry up to now.
  6. Surely there's a difference between "aid" and "emergency relief". Sending a well fitted out ship with specialist equipment id designed not to "better" people's lives, but to "save" them. There is a place for the military. They bring a structured approach, with clear lies of command, in situations where that is required - as in delivering urgent relief if times of natural emergencies. And - I'm poor. Send $$$. It will help.
  7. Hmmm, personally I'm letting the professionals sort this out. I wasn't there, honest.
  8. There are no secret spots, Whangaroa is a pretty cool harbour. You'll find a lot of the printed cruising guides are out of date, as many places up there have closed down. Ask anyone you see on the street and you'll soon find out where to find things - if they are available!
  9. "The catamaran will be powered by a methanol drive system and will ‘pioneer geothermal energy’ in yachting, the designers said" Wot?

    Boat insurance

You will need 3rd party to keep it in a marina. Maybe talk to Baileys https://www.baileysinsurance.co.nz/
  11. I'm surprised at your comment there Kevin. I think the concept of a Logistics ship, capable of providing useful support to our Pacific neighbours in time of climatic disasters, is a good and sound one. Of course it will help to combat creeping Chinese influence on our nearest neighbours, but this will be via humanitarian support rather than overt military aggression. You make it sound like you would rather not provide this support in the interests of appeasing China. Are we that far gone that we can't choose to make our own decisions?
  12. What, this one? https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=12342391&fbclid=IwAR1HKyJGpGOk4TlpfiuoT2YQ9tpchE1J2SzAOSiDPql6e0gS3cU6Zxj89-8
  13. It's good that we are being honest. I've just gone through and re-read the thread and I'd like to explain myself. Your post, which initiated the thread drift on to air crew, included this statement: "PS, Health Minster David Clark is going to have a hard word with Air NZ, what a joke, I'd bitch slap that clown if he tried having a hard word with me. I'm sure Air NZ would run rings around him. He has no mandate..." I remember thinking that your statement was, apart from the gung-ho machismo side of things, pretty non-constructive. So, my comment was born out of frustration at t
  14. Any suggestions to improve the situation? People in the past have tried concentration camps and bullets to focus other people's attention and that was a spectacular fail. I guess we might just have to expect people to be people and hope for the best. Bringing in some military organisation seems to be a good idea in this case?
  15. Yes but the problem with your argument is that it assumes that the decisionmakers give a s++t, when they so obviously don't....
  16. This would be the same French Polynesia that has allowed the building of many resorts on the windward fringing reef of Bora-Bora?
  17. Or open a window..... 8>)
  18. 4200 mostly. I used to like the old polysulphide but it seems to have gone out of favour.
  19. It doesn't sound like you have ever used Silicon, it has absolutely no place on a boat these days.
  20. Saw you on the road, looked good!
  21. Agree with this. Start with a chart, get used to working out your location/position and accustom yourself to eyeball pilotage. You can use all the aids available but you should get in the habit of constantly assessing all of the possible inputs to confirm you know where you are. The east coast north of Auckland is a fantastic area to learn to navigate simply - all sorts of challenges but no fog! Using a plotter is too bloody easy to teach you anything apart from watching the tv!
  22. I think you will be fighting vested interests, paid-off politicians (ref National's connection with commercial fishing), and profit-before-anything-else logic. But I agree that such a potentially high-value resource should be utilised by and for the people that claim ownership - i.e. Kiwis.

    Jigsaw blades?

Buy lots. Bimetal for thicker, wood for thin - but buy even more. Go as slow as you can.
  24. If anyone is looking for a good recommendation for power tools I would give a vote for AllTrades Electric Tools in Henderson Valley Road. They really know their sh*t and make the big box stores look like amateurs. Good to support a local business.

    She's Back...

And also messaged inflatable boat repairers to go ahead with the additions to the house - they'll be able to afford it....
