  1. Stewart 34's pound a lot at sea and don't have the room of 1104. My choice would be 1104 or D35 depending on what condition is of those boats for sale. IMO pay a bit more rather than go for one that needs $$$ spent. Read KM's post. BTW KM which clutches did you settle on ?
  2. Good advice Fish....which I've taken. Turn off TV news, but watch Sky News selectively. Occasionally watch Credlin/Bolt not so much for content but for a reminder of how media can try and keep pollies to account. No such thing here. Result a CoL disaster unfolds while mainstream NZ remains blissfully unaware. Awaits Jacinderellas baby as the lead item of political interest !
  3. Thankfully we've got global warming otherwise we would be really cold!?????
  4. Compulsory rescue insurance ? You have to be kidding. Imagine the insurance requirements. On top of Cat 1which would be a minimum insurance requirement. As I understand it only NZ citizens require a Cat 1 clearance. Change your domicile and sail away free of NZ requirements ??
  5. Oh dear . But what do you expect ? Yes Minister is not a comedy.....it's a documentary. Learn from history or relive it.
  6. Yes,and some of them are pedantic box ticking tin hat wearers too.
  7. Agreed. Seems they all forecast the absolute worst and the when it doesn't eventuate they are in the clear whereas if their forecast is even marginally under what happens they get well and truly caned by the media. Perhaps you should also campaign for the media to lay off the forecasters who are, afterall only human. As an afterthought remember the days of manned lighthouse keepers who used to send in weather updates and how much more reliable that system was !
  8. Well said Steadfast. There's a heap of substance in that quote !
  9. Can't come soon enough. That will make IC cars cheap and petrol cheaper. Meantime electricity generation will have to be multiplied by xxxx. Wheres that coming from.? Greenies won't allow nuclear or coal generation. Maori won't allow hydro. Oh dear. All those electric cars stranded. Don't overlook other infrastructure costs either. There's no such thing as a free lunch folks. One way or other you pay
  10. Yes,and Harbourmasters too. I understand you need an Ocean Going Masters ticket to be a harbourmaster. To most of them pleasure boaties are nothing more than a nuisance and a menace >
  11. You get what you pay for with a/f. Micron 66 is more expensive up front but a lot cheaper overall because it lasts much longer than, say, Warpaint which we've used in the past. But get it sprayed. Much better finish than roller / brush !
  12. Experience everytime. Go crew for your first trip with an experienced skipper. Maybe a race yacht delivery
  13. Rather than a time shift how about a weather shift. This is where the PM looks at the weather forecast and when it looks like 4 days like we just had declares it a holiday. Will give her something decisive to contribute too !
  14. Just look at Oz. Compulsory boat / skipper licensing is coming, especially with this mob who want to control everything. My bet is through Coastguard. .
  15. That's so true. And they are a bigger menace than Mediterranean fan worm plus all the other Lurgy. It was them that closed grids thereby denying sectors of boats the opportunity to scrub and kill said Lurgy. Great thinking processes !! ??
  16. Yeah well Environment Waikato are the Marine Gestapo. Wear lifejackets or else we'll jump out of the mangroves and zap you. Don't scrub your boat but don't go in their area if its dirty . They do nothing to help the situation that brought all this crap here in the first place. Their eye is only on the potential revenue stream for all marine misdemeanours. Local Govt. at its absolute worst. BTW its likely that ballast water in ships has something to do with imported lurgy but as an enforcement officer reported there is nothing Regional Councils can do about that. So boaties are next in the mone
  17. Yes. IMHO those Rule boats were mainly a designers planned obsolescence scheme guaranteeing them new commissions year after year until the owners woke up. Bruce Farr was the alarm clock and his boats were a joy to sail after the horror shows of the hole diggers. You ain't seen nothing compared to a yacht with a ribbon main on a tall mast ,masthead kite, short pole, bustle aft, getting immersed in the hole it created for itself just prior to wiping out. Spectacular, expensive and character forming. The establishment went to extreme lengths to outlaw light boats that planed ,and ,shock ,horror, ope
  18. Talk about pot calling the kettle black ! And that's all camps. Some of the acts in Izzie Bay over the years would get most of the bay arrested these days. Likewise Mansion House. Stories about the Snake Pit abound
  19. Wasn't it Fred Ladd who did it twice in a Grumman Widgeon and was some kind of folk hero in non PC time?
  20. Yes , the horse will have bolted. Probably reported in 2010 and its taken until now for some pointy head bureaucrat to process the restriction. Ran up against one last year when he tried to inspect our boat bottom.. I asked him what he was doing about the overseas ship bringing the stuff here on their ships. His reply was solid gold. We can't do anything about them but we can get you ! Classic NZ bureaucrat. Process is what counts, not the outcome!
  21. Thx BP. Guess you have finally changed direction and ended up where you are headed ? Politically ? Upside down ?
  22. Yeah...stopped listening to VHF. B/S traffic is intolerable. No wonder there's more trouble on the water when some of the clowns actually believe that the mindless chatter is making them 'safe'. In fog in the Colville Channel and through the gaps spot a large ship at right angles to us on a converging course,at speed, heading for Akld. Called and called on VHF Ch.16 to ascertain they had us but no response. Eventually went head to wind and waited. Had MSC on the side of it. Guess they were on auto and not concerned with a mere yacht.
  23. Details, BP , details ! You are usually so good at them. How long in water and how long in rigging please. Say ,sitting in Fitzroy in 10 / 20 knot SW with sea temp at 18 / 19 ?...Thanks......
  24. I'm missing something here. You pay for a berth and with it goes a carpark. I would have thought that's the end of it. You park your boat while you go work ? You park your car because that's what you pay for ? The exclusive use of a marina berth and ditto for carpark. Don't have that problem in the Waikato. Don't see the difference between parking to go sailing and parking to go to work. Surely working to pay for the rent is marina related ?
  25. Point taken KM .However there are / were sailmakers and salemakers. Yes .....Lidgard experience would have been old management.
