  1. Quick get some Antifoul on BP its not far to Mahurangi
  2. KM is right inasmuch as the actions of the parties straght after the incident influenced the outcome, what was said etc etc.
  3. It is quite right to compare this to Fullers and the Antaeus crash, though it begs the question -what about the other equally serious launch crashes during this period also at night that no one told the media about?? And true KM the Antaeus one was very different circumstances - broad daylight etc etc

    Blue lights

Almost witnessed the same off Devonport on Christmas Eve, Line fishing boat anchored with everyone fishing, when another surveyed? vessel passes us heading straight for them all the fishos screaming pulled their rods in and the helmsman of the steaming vessel returns to his post and just manages to swerve down their side-real close. I am happy to be a witness for the anchored vessel , the one not under command lives at Westpark and a week later passed us going too fast on the wrong side of Manowar passage GBI.

    Vestas collision

Silly course for this type of racing yacht, generations of those fisherman have fished there with no lights etc . Is it fair for Western Yachties to blast through there hoping to not hit many?
  6. A great sail, to round the year off, watched the snatch crew have a good swim then righted her and off again, has to be blowing for two Stewarts to suffer such damage. we were a bit light on the MRX but all good fun.

    Fizboats

Yes the Rayglass boatshare people do not understand that maximum pre planing speed limits their vision from the helm and creates the most wake possible, see it all the time at Westhaven, watching them attempt the fuel jetty is good entertainment for the assembled coffee drinkers as well.
  8. Correct, I was referring to the actual marina berths first starting around on the squadron side, when the dinghy locker was just that.
  9. I have to correct you JB, people who taught me to sail amongst many others stumped up the money for the Westhaven berths before they were built. There was no gift, the harbour board as it was then had the money from private individuals before they started. Okahu Hardstand or Easthaven is it was on one of my early maps was slightly different, built from the dredgings of Okahu Bay.

    Props

Gori at Power Equipment, more yacht props than anyone else in NZ
  11. Deks Olje lucky to get six months in Auckland -no matter how many coats, Sikkens like a stain mixed with varnish -ok if you dont like the colour of your wood. Alwood seems to be lasting the best -at a price. I still favour two coats of West epoxy followed by seven coats of Epifanes varnish, three years in Auckland before touch up!!.
  12. Last year at exactly this time I had a marine sparky working on my boat and he was parked in the white spaces , stayed more than one hour and was ticketed, I protested to the marina office and their pat reply was not us try Wilson parking. Not good enough they have forgotten who paid for this facility and cant opt out of responsibility. By the way an automatron from Wilsons was going round the marina last night after six looking for cars to ticket, we shall have to see if Westhaven sticks to its published word of not ticketing on race nights.....
  13. Pilot Boat fairly close in from my observation of it prior to this, not any more though.
  14. Yes looks like a Reactor, just seen a Harmonic and a D28 up a drive by Ngawha Springs looking as if they have been there some time, there is a Variant on a drive at Kaiwaka also long term. Johnny Wrays last boat by the road at Rawene seems to have disappeared.
  15. Yachting NZ still silent on the Dolphin issue......... with all those salaries too

    Mystery Boat

Yes she is Archangel , was Peters own boat, have also seen her move to Orakei during a big northerly, I quite like seeing boats at anchor there, when I grew up round there (violins sound) there were moorings along Kohi and St Heliers.
  17. JB is correct, prior to the mid eighties 316 SS was not that common in nz fasteners
  18. Jabsco have an SS fitting just for that purpose -try Lustys
  19. I wonder whose design JB sails These boats should not be compared with a 1220, as chalk and cheese and only one of those would I happily head off in across the big old sea.
  20. Looks great in those conditions, would like to compare in a typical Hauraki Gulf afternoon breeze with a bit of a sea running...might turn into a messy blancmange
  21. Only one of the 930s had an uncontrolled square top but that seems to have disappeared, ETNZ are doing a bit of work in this area at the moment-and as others have commented all the cloth and sailmakers are getting better at them, of course BP has the answer gaff or for the ultimate a large lugsail.

    New dodger

We have just had a new dodger made, got four people to quote, one priced it up immediately, one came back in three weeks never heard from the others....... The straight away quoter got the job and completed it a week early so got paid straight away. Obviously plenty of work out there in that game.
  23. Good Breeze out there now...... Will make it very interesting for the big multi battle with Franks bigger foretriangle if its this light tomorrow....
  24. Its working for me havent plugged in since last Christmas
  25. Yes JB and the new type of Barnacle from the BOI is very quick to adhere and tenacious , all the hardstand operators south of Whangarei are aware of it for the last 18 months, yet we dont ban Northland boats from other ports? About the only Antifoul that throws it are the very soft ones -No 5 etc
