  1. oh pulease. Your boat is in a marina. It doesn't need you to tuck it in at night. The marina has security to ensure it is as safe as reasonably practicable and its no less safe during lockdown than any other time of year. Pretty sure your insurance agent isn't losing sleep over an increase in risk. In fact, its risk has probably reduced since you are not out there nudging up against rocks and sh*t. Baches get left for months at a time. Its a non-problem.

  2. Not a lot to say - Raspberry Pi 4B with a powered USB hub and a couple of USB buck converters to power it all sitting in a $5 Systeema plastic box. There is a little vertical recess in front of the chart table where it will sit. Keyboard and mouse driven. The screen is a 24-inch 12v unit mounted on a gas arm so it can reach the companionway. Screen is already on the yacht. I may add a small (5 - 7 inch) screen to the Pi itself as a secondary/backup OpenCPN loaded and ready to run. I have an old bluetooth GPS receiver I'll try on it, if not it will get a cheapo ali-depressed usb

  6. Actually, I dont think an inspection can be done at level 3 - certainly not with an owner aboard. Bubbles still exist in level 3...

  7. I reckon it's very likely. Hopefully we're in Level 3 by the 14th. Even if that's delayed a week we'll enter Level 3 on the 21st. Assume level 3/2 combo for 4 weeks - worst case? Worst case Auckland hits the same level as Northland on October 19th? No reason why you can't get the boat inspected and seaworthy during Level 3 and get your entry in. It obvisously depends, but personally I think it's looking promising.

  13. Years ago i lent my copy of Perfect Storm to a friend at the PYBC. He and his wife preparing to do a big offshore adventure with no time limit. When he finished reading it and returned it, i asked if his wife had read it. His reply was hell no. If she read that she would never go. Came back 3 years later after completing a full circumnavigation.

  14. Yes it’s all about context. I was a tiny bit worried because I recently remembered I had left my gas on (at the bottle). But today a helpful friend living at GH was out for a walk so he checked on Fogg for me including turning my gas off at the bottle. He also checked that my recently re-sealed saloon windows were watertight with no signs of leaks. He was in & out of the marina in 5 mins. That’s all I would have wanted to do. As a bonus he sent me a pic to remind me what I’m missing…

  16. The wellington marinas have taken the stance that there is no external access at Lvl4 If you have concerns contact the marina and they have staff available (some are live aboard. Their rational is they have liveaboards in the marina and that is them isolating the same a everyone else. I guess the comparison is you are isolating at home and people randomly wander through your section or want to use the bathroom (shared marina facilities) Last year there was almost a revolt at one marina where some tenants wanted the liveaboard thrown out so they could drive 30 mins and sit on the

  19. Yes I know insurance contracts can never require you act illegally or benefit from illegal acts but this is a v grey area open to interpretation and I can easily see people being caught between two unfavourable interpretations - govt on one side and insurers on the other. Cantebury, anyone? I know you and I have slightly different interpretations of UDHR but Article 17 sets out everyone’s basic human right to own (and protect) property, such as a boat. So regardless of the the insurance angle, once again I see this lockdown as denying us freedoms that are enshrined in our human right
