  1. i'd hazard a guess that increased costs are also a big factor. not as cheap to keep a piedy going as once it was.
  2. ah i wondered what was going on down there. seemed like a lot more than the usual activity!
  3. yeah i found the old thread actually. big mess. didn't see any blame attributed to CG, though...
  4. still fairly unpleasant out there i should think. anybody want to shed some more light on the TW righting controversy?
  5. wow. anybody know how they power the foil control? and all the rest, come to that. one guy doing a bit of cursory grinding occasionally isn't going to get you very far i shouldn't think.
  6. i just mean that i hope their charity sale goes well. what their base price should be, i make no comment.
  7. no offence, but I hope they get a lot more than 1500 for it!

    winds in nz

getting distinctly blustery -- gusting 60 at tiri now. not an excuse for that event though.
  9. personally i like the promenade, and the design seems reasonable. it's a nice space that can be used for more than just a car park.
  10. Would make sense. A lot of sailing at displacement hull speed...
  11. presumably that's why the dedicated chase boat is there.
  12. yeah it'll be interesting to see the kite and frank. kite is fast but way lower.
  13. they're looking good now, should lay through and doing ~ 20kts
  14. can't say I'm terribly surprised. It definitely seems to be stuck up at times, too. On the whole, though, I'd say that the bridge does a pretty good job of allowing boaties and pedestrians to share.
  15. if you secure it against your house, sure. an actual boat loan, though?
  16. definitely. 10m berth + annual antifoul, what, maybe $8k? call it debt service on $80k?
  17. I had a good experience having odd shapes cut, for a non-boat project, at modern plastics. They used to be at victoria park but seem to have moved out to ellerslie now. On the shore maybe psp plastics?
  18. yikes. i guess that explains why the marinas always have such high $$ liability insurance requirements!
  19. does look like a lot of space for the $. does suggest something about the condition, but I have no specific info on that front.
  20. ha. that's a great mental image though. given everything else about that boat, i'm picking that the AP is bespoke/
  21. For overall considerations, it might be useful to know what's pushing you to make the change?
  22. just for weight? i'd think you'd have to carry almost as much diesel. those yammies weight what, 35-40 kg each? so at the moment you're maybe 160 kg engines + fuel. given the weight of the diesel outboards, even if you only had 20 litres of diesel you would have added weight all up, and I can't imagine that's enough fuel.
  23. photo seems fine. my understanding is that diesel outboards are expensive and heavy. why do you want to go that way?

Thanks. Yeah I read about the moorings and there do seem to be good anchorages. I guess I mean how crowded are the anchorages, and can you actually get on the moorings? For example, in the san juans there are also moorings laid, but they're very hard to get in the summer.
