  1. Restricted by draft or room? RAYC guide just says can get in there draft <1.8m, had been planning to check it out next week.
  2. https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/mako-club-hammer-3lb/R1896347.html
  3. Just take care with wake and tidal stream.
  4. Afaik there's still water at orapiu without going all the way back to matiatia.

    hokianga

    Great. Thanks both!

    hokianga

Can anyone tell me about the suitability of the Hokianga for dinghy sailing? We're going to be in Rawene for a bit and could take the Hobie, just wondering if it's worth the trouble or not. Are the ramps tidal? How's the sailing? Can't find that there are any clubs sailing regularly, but seems like it should be good.
  7. I can't even remember now. I think maybe I went and dug the book out of the library? Tide Maps Hauraki.pdf
  8. Yeah those look good. I need to beg/borrow/rent one though as buying the charger is almost as expensive as battery replacement... !
  9. I've got some 12v lead acid batteries that were neglected (not by me!) and I'm wondering about reconditioning / desulphating. Not marine, but deep cycle (mobility scooter). Does anyone know of a place on the shore that does this?
  10. On the other hand, if you want to abandon a boat you hardly need to put it on a mooring to do so...
  11. The bond idea is appealing, but it would have to be pretty significant. I remember another thread with disposal cost estimates. 5k? 10k?
  12. Sad to hear about metro. Remember when she was sailing with DYC, ~2011? That feedback profile doesn't look half bad compared to many of the disasters I've come across on TM.
  13. Thanks. At first I was disappointed that it wasn't the boat, but that's a good laugh.
  14. They should just buy winddan and call it the new coastguard app.

    They're quick

Nice. Would be worrying if your zillion dollar boat wasn't faster than a nacra 17 though!
  16. it you want cheap, there's plenty out there -- but as above, much is crap.
  17. Our night-rate EV power is ~11c/kwh, and some areas are lower. But you're right that it's not $2 (but still way less than ~$100 for petrol).
  18. Ah yes, the old finance committee problem. I think we all know and understand that one.
  19. Yes, but you can make it from water+electricity -- unlike diesel. Turning 'naki gas into hydrogen doesn't make a lot of sense, but you could certainly use all of that spare electricity down south if the smelter stops using it.
  20. There's a reason everything has gone li-ion these days.
  21. then you couldn't come to NZ!
  22. maybe at high tide. but then you'd probably be responsible for it!
  23. what's happening to the devonport haul out facilities?
  24. wow. the listed rig and sail costs certainly make for sobering reading, imagining the maintenance bills...
