Hi all Just looking for some wisdom. The 10 Hp Bukh in my Raven 26 has given up the ghost after nursing it for seven or eight years. I would love to replace it with something close to like for like but obviously with the present value of a Raven, unless I can find something second hand for a reasonable price, options are fairly limited as I don't want to be sinking 10 k into a new motor. Second hand small diesels seem to be as rare as rocking horse poop. I guess the other option is an outboard? Has anyone done anything similar to a similar sized yacht? Certainly not th

Well maintained Raven in Westhaven, open to (any) offers. It's berth is given if anyone want to go check it out: I have a Raven 26 at Westhaven and although the engine starts stalls when in drive, been told low compression on the engine in regular use until then antifoul 12 months ago 2 mains , 3 Jibs , Furler , electric Windlass , tiller autopilot and all other bits looking to sell anyone interested? -
Yes I know both boats. 'Fantail' is the Raven, and 'Shantung' is your wife's uncle and aunt boat. To be clear - there is no issue with the junk rig, it is just assessing the best method to reattach bulkheads or at least peruse options to perhaps slightly open up the interior without compromising the integity of the hull. Cheers

Pretty Much what others have said and sailing characteristics will need analysis with such a significant sail plan/rig change. (Balance and Fwd Buoyancy comes to mind.) There is a junk rigged Raven 26 in my local mooring field and it looks fine although I have never seen it sailed. As a front load before contacting the Naval Architect see if you can get a copy of the lines drawing, in my experience its usually the first thing they ask for. My wifes uncle and aunt did a 7 year circumnavigation in a Junk Rigged 31 footer , went up to Japan , Russia, the Aleutians, Alaska etc, wrote a book and a

I am going to suggest go to an outboard. Extra long shaft Tohatsu sailpro hi thrust, or a 9.9hp hi thrust from Yamaha, and other makes. I'd go the 6hp, as I see the Raven displacement is only 5,000lbs, and at only 26kg, you can store the outboard on the railing when on a long coastal passage, or just tilt up and leave on the bracket. You can also look forward to half a knot boat speed gained by getting rid of that anchor under the water, called a propellor. Just my opinion, but I also live it as both my previous two yachts, and my current one (will be when launched) were outboard

Looking for something that I can use to replace the now expired Bukh on my Raven 26. OK with having to do work on what ever it is. I guess ideally a Bukh 10HP for ease of changeover, so if you have anything gathering dust, that you are keen to move on, it would be great to hear from you. Cheers Jeff

Yep we thought long and hard about moving the finish to northern leading between the short two and long course But why spoil your fun plus waiting for a Raven 26 to finish 3 hours after the multi’s meant we had to run two lines If you kept west of a line from Durville toLittle Barrier you had wind all day, just ask the guys on the short course however look at this pic of last 3 boats going around eastern mark

Looking at buying a Raven 31 as I need a reasonably shallow boat to get over a riverbar. Various sites have the draft at 1.52m, 1.6m and 1.67m. The owners group site has both 1.52m and 1.67m. There are no mentions of keel options. I don't want to have to pay for a haul to find out the boat is deeper draft than expected. Can anyone confirm the draft of a Raven 31?

Do have specific requirements but would see what is out there.

Hi , I currently co-own Raven 26 (awesome little boat ) but as my buddy will be leaving country in next couple months I am thinking of selling raven and put some extra coins to get some bigger boat where I could comfortably live for 2-3 weeks at the time and explore coast of NZ ( I am Akl Based ) and maybe over next few years build up into pacific cruiser ( if that's even good idea to invest money into the boat instead of buying one which is rdy ). Space to accommodate at least 4 ppl. Was thinking something around 32-36ft - Cavalier 36, Maybe raven 31 , ?? any suggestions ? Wi

`You say you want to cruise the coast for 2 to 3 weeks at a time. That can easily be done in your Raven 26. In my younger days we used to cruise for 3 to 4 weeks at Xmas from Auckland to the BOI or Barrier with two kids on board. Cheap cruising in a small boat.

Welcome to the forum. Agree that Raven is a great starter boat and the next upgrade should be 30-35 foot for the money you're thinking. There have been lots of very similar questions like this asked so you should be able to dredge them up through the search. The repeating themes are: Costs rise exponentially with boat size. Eg If stay below 10.5m you save having to pay for a 12m berth. A 40mm shackle is something like 50% cheaper than a 60mm one. Don't buy a do up. Buy the best boat you can. So smaller will be cheaper and still give you a great coastal boat. I'm Un

Got back from the bay just in time for the start, good breeze to shoot them away, at least no one anchored on the course-for those with long memories, though the Raven 31 that motoring went in front of White Shadow off Narrowneck was a bit silly.

100% Raven 26. Cheap, Safe, good headroom, an ideal learner keeler
-
tauranga harbour is pretty shallow everywhere. Consider actual draft. A bilge keeler would suit there really well. Jon has said it first - survey. you will need one for insurance anyway, and you will need insurance for a marina berth or a mooring. For a cheap as chips option, Raven 26. Lots of other choices though.

Hi Bevan Depending on timing, very interested. I am a 56 year old Wellington based owner of a Raven 26. Have completed numerous Cook Strait crossings, one trip to Fiji and most recently sailed as Crew on another Raven from Gisborne to Wellington. cheers Jeff

Anyone know the right size of stuffing? It's the bronze factory gland with a 1 inch shaft. Boat a long way away and want to get sorted before haulout in a couple of weeks...
-
3 out of 7 boats have come ashore - nearly 50%. Probably all of them write-offs. The Raven hull looks good at first but has split along the port gunwhale from bow to stern.
-
I would buy it just for the electrical install. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/keeler/auction-1643650430.htm?rsqid=c462996367a0483185a7f57de11ad574

All you need to do is look at T/M with silly questions for a raven 26 or simular. Does it have a shower/hot n cold water etc. Think these are the ones who really want a caravan but dont want to use caravan parks My 26ft had a shower.Solar shower in the cockpit, hot water ,if you boiled the jug

Good stuff Psyche....I know guys like BP have paid their dues with the small boats over the years so what I am about to say has no relevance to the likes of him....but what the hell is wrong with people that they can't put up with a bit of discomfort (which the joys far outweigh) putting a Hub, Wifey, and three kiddies in a Raven 26 for 2 or 3 weeks over Xmas? Do you really need the 45 footer you use twice per year, then take up space in a Marina in an expensive berth..... something is seriously f__cked with the (no pun intended) 'psyche' of modern people. In my experience, without a bit of
