  1. Hi , I currently co-own Raven 26 (awesome little boat ) but as my buddy will be leaving country in next couple months I am thinking of selling raven and put some extra coins to get some bigger boat where I could comfortably live for 2-3 weeks at the time and explore coast of NZ ( I am Akl Based ) and maybe over next few years build up into pacific cruiser ( if that's even good idea to invest money into the boat instead of buying one which is rdy ). Space to accommodate at least 4 ppl. Was thinking something around 32-36ft - Cavalier 36, Maybe raven 31 , ?? any suggestions ? Wi
  2. `You say you want to cruise the coast for 2 to 3 weeks at a time. That can easily be done in your Raven 26. In my younger days we used to cruise for 3 to 4 weeks at Xmas from Auckland to the BOI or Barrier with two kids on board. Cheap cruising in a small boat.
  3. Welcome to the forum. Agree that Raven is a great starter boat and the next upgrade should be 30-35 foot for the money you're thinking. There have been lots of very similar questions like this asked so you should be able to dredge them up through the search. The repeating themes are: Costs rise exponentially with boat size. Eg If stay below 10.5m you save having to pay for a 12m berth. A 40mm shackle is something like 50% cheaper than a 60mm one. Don't buy a do up. Buy the best boat you can. So smaller will be cheaper and still give you a great coastal boat. I'm Un
  4. Notice is hereby given that the following vessels have been deemed to be abandoned. 1. ‘Lady H’ - approx. 9.0m (30ft) white hull H28 keeler - Blackpool, Waiheke Island 2. ‘Gavotte’ - approx. 9.0m (30ft) white hull H28 keeler - Rocky Bay, Waiheke Island 3. ‘Sea Saw’ - approx. 7.0m (23ft) white hull keeler - Hobson Bay 4. ‘Ziggy Star Dust’ - approx. 8.0m (26ft) white hull keeler (Raven 26) - Glendowie 5. ‘Ruamoko’ - approx. 8.0m (26ft) white hull catamaran - Little Shoal Bay 6. ‘Tashi’ - approx. 6.0m (20ft) white hull yacht - Panmure 7. ‘ Drifter’ - appro
  5. Got back from the bay just in time for the start, good breeze to shoot them away, at least no one anchored on the course-for those with long memories, though the Raven 31 that motoring went in front of White Shadow off Narrowneck was a bit silly.
  6. 100% Raven 26. Cheap, Safe, good headroom, an ideal learner keeler
  7. tauranga harbour is pretty shallow everywhere. Consider actual draft. A bilge keeler would suit there really well. Jon has said it first - survey. you will need one for insurance anyway, and you will need insurance for a marina berth or a mooring. For a cheap as chips option, Raven 26. Lots of other choices though.
  8. Hi Bevan Depending on timing, very interested. I am a 56 year old Wellington based owner of a Raven 26. Have completed numerous Cook Strait crossings, one trip to Fiji and most recently sailed as Crew on another Raven from Gisborne to Wellington. cheers Jeff
  9. 3 out of 7 boats have come ashore - nearly 50%. Probably all of them write-offs. The Raven hull looks good at first but has split along the port gunwhale from bow to stern.
  10. Looking at buying a Raven 31 as I need a reasonably shallow boat to get over a riverbar. Various sites have the draft at 1.52m, 1.6m and 1.67m. The owners group site has both 1.52m and 1.67m. There are no mentions of keel options. I don't want to have to pay for a haul to find out the boat is deeper draft than expected. Can anyone confirm the draft of a Raven 31?
  11. Do have specific requirements but would see what is out there.
  12. Anybody know this boat? I want to know some basic stuff - what is she -I'd guess a Raven (shld never have given up my dream of bein a copper eh) etc. I was told she is a 36 but must admit thought Ravens were max 31' - Mostly I want to know what weight.. cheers
  13. have been trawling through trademe .Wife and I are looking to buy our first small keel boat and have noticed what looks to be a tidy raven 26 on trademe named sandman . are these a good first small yacht ? what are the things to look for when looking at a boat like this ? we are looking more for a floating caravan than a racer . previous sailing experince has been 12ft surf cat and p class when younger . also crewing in winter series at local cruising club . any tips apprecited ! cheers
  14. https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=2511018630 Will be a hard sell at $20k I think
  15. Anyone know the right size of stuffing? It's the bronze factory gland with a 1 inch shaft. Boat a long way away and want to get sorted before haulout in a couple of weeks...
  16. All you need to do is look at T/M with silly questions for a raven 26 or simular. Does it have a shower/hot n cold water etc. Think these are the ones who really want a caravan but dont want to use caravan parks My 26ft had a shower.Solar shower in the cockpit, hot water ,if you boiled the jug
  17. Good stuff Psyche....I know guys like BP have paid their dues with the small boats over the years so what I am about to say has no relevance to the likes of him....but what the hell is wrong with people that they can't put up with a bit of discomfort (which the joys far outweigh) putting a Hub, Wifey, and three kiddies in a Raven 26 for 2 or 3 weeks over Xmas? Do you really need the 45 footer you use twice per year, then take up space in a Marina in an expensive berth..... something is seriously f__cked with the (no pun intended) 'psyche' of modern people. In my experience, without a bit of
  18. Zoz, you make some good points but the biggest change is demographics and economics. The big flush in yachting coincided with the boomers being young men i.e the 70's 80's and maybe a bit into the 90's before 2007 killed the last of it off. This is worldwide btw, and as that demographic moved through life like a piglet in a python dominating schools, sports, politics and now rest homes, they left behind yachting look at your local yacht club(and RSA's, Rugby Clubs etc etc), almost without exception they are full of elderly grey haired gents who used to be the young guys in the 70's.
  19. I would buy it just for the electrical install. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/keeler/auction-1643650430.htm?rsqid=c462996367a0483185a7f57de11ad574
  20. There used to be a Raven 26 called Pac Man. Don't know if is still has the same name.
  21. hey priscilla do you have more photos of the inside of your raven 31? iv just purchased one and am very inspired by your interior, would love to get mine looking like that!
  22. I'd think anything of that size would be tight. The raven is already a "modest" rig.
  23. Talking of the rig, do you know the rig height (air draft). I occasionally tuck under a 12m MHWS bridge. The Raven is slightly too tall. The Lotus 9.2 is nice but the family liked the Raven 31 more.
  24. Hi ECS, Loved the Raven. Stern is outstanding as love sailing, fishing Diving etc. Always felt safe, even took her round the North Island via the Three Kings. Only change would be a bigger rig as she is a big volume boat and sticky in the light.
  25. My raven 31 was 1.52. Measured on cradle
